Lettuce Craft Turns 5 Wall Art Collage- High Five Challenge Entry

The theme of my High Five Entry is 5 Flourishing Years. Everything that we do and enjoy here at Lettuce Craft is growing everyday and my wall art piece depicts a lush area of growth.

I used a variety of media and 5 techniques in my project: collage, watercolor, mixed media, die cutting and hand lettering. It features a watercolor 5-blooms flower stalk that is reaching and growing towards Lettuce Craft. The base is cardboard, the hanger is embroidery floss and I finished the back with kraft paper. It’s 9x13".

To celebrate our 5-year anniversary, I have included some characteristics of the #5, which I wrote on the 5 blooms:

  1. Change - we are willing to change to try new media and techniques.
  2. Curiosity - we are curious about what our fellow members are making.
  3. Learning - we come here to learn.
  4. Freedom - we are free to be ourselves at LC.
  5. Love - simply put, we love it here.

On the 5 reaching leaves of the top bloom are 5 ideas that the #5 suggests:

  • Adaptation - we adapt to grow our creative skills.
  • Exploration - we explore new media.
  • Balance - our varied personalities support and stabilize our community.
  • Grace - we are gracious in our appreciation for the works of other members.
  • Open-Mindedness - we are open to new techniques.

Near the bottom, I’ve included a 5-stanza poem that I wrote for our celebration:

To come here is to love here.
This place of friendship and creativities.
There is much here that we hold dear.
We grow and enjoy our creative abilities.
Lettuce Craft Happy 5!

I chose the color orange for my project highlight before I knew that orange is one of the most-associated colors for the #5, though there are others. The psychology of the color orange includes these 5 life perspectives:

  • Adventure
  • Friendly and Heart-Felt Conversation
  • Joy of Life
  • Vitality
  • The Stimulation of Mental and Physical Activity

I’m sure that you will agree that we at Lettuce Craft enjoy all of these outlooks as we create and share.

No, my art project is not lit up. I added this darkened pic to show where I added clear rhinestones. It’s so hard to show them in pics and they add such a pretty sparkle.

You will find other symbols of 5 in this artwork. There are hearts, dragonflies, water droplets on the blossoms, etc. The 5 cancelled stamps express 5 years of happy mails and swaps.

I would have taken more pics of my process but there was not enough time. I came upon the event around 7/22 so, I had to get cracking and keep cracking! Barely had time to photo the completed project and write this post. I finished before the deadline was extended.

Thanks for looking and reading! Happy 5! :tada::partying_face::confetti_ball:

First of all, you used my favorite color combo: orange, purple and green…the trifecta of perfect in my mind!

The entire piece is meaningful…you have expressed the sentiments of many so beautifully. The composition is eye-catching as well.

I am glad you are here to do all the things and enjoy all the things with all of us. Well done (the sparkly gems make the piece extra funky and so LC!!)

Thanks so much to everyone who has replied and may reply later. Your enthusiastic and exuberant comments are so heartwarming! Of course, I feel that if I had had more time, I would have done a better job.

You know what we artists and crafters know very well, that the project that we don’t think is our best, others usually like very much. It was, however, my choice to enter the competition late, knowing I would be pressured. In my haste, I had 2 snafus that I had to correct. I was so angry and thought of not submitting the project at all.

Even though I choose to not participate in swaps and happy mail, I love them and seeing what you exchange. That’s why I was happy to include the 5 canceled stamps. As far as the extensive thought that many of you mentioned that went into this project, that’s that research excitement and love of writing that I suffer from. :flushed:

Looking forward to seeing other entries. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

It’s a feast for the eyes from the color palette to the writing to all the small elements–like a Seek and Find of artistry! Have you studied hand-letting? Your writing looks so good. I looked at my writing from thirty some years ago and it has much improved. Maybe some day it will get there
I noticed the stamps right away because I collect them and I love that they represent swapping and happy mail! Those are a great touch (once again, biased here).
Oh! Let’s not forget rhinestones??? YES!

Thank you so much for the compliments! I love A Seek And Find Of Artistry! I had to laugh about your appreciation for my writing. It changes, depending on I don’t know what and much of the time I hate it. Though I didn’t think that it looked that great, I guess it was caught at a good time for this project.

Decades ago, I had a Sheaffer Calligraphy Set like this. I had begun to practice but didn’t get very far. I abandoned it for so many years that the disposable ink tubes dried up and I eventually sold the set on eBay. The person who bought it seemed very happy to have it. I hope to practice again but I would use calligraphy markers.

I’m glad you’re happy with your improved writing. I collect canceled stamps too and it’s fun to create faux ones.

Thank you so much for your kind comment and appreciation! I’m glad I submitted it anyway, even though I felt that it was not as organized as it could have been. I did enjoy the pressure of working to complete it before the 1st deadline.
