Lil 'i'iwi bud vases!

As I’ve been trying to (still) get out of the holiday/winter haze, I’ve been trying some new little things with clay, and I ended up making a flock of handbuilt porcelain 'i’iwi. They have a little well in their back so they can be a little bid vase or something to hold small things like cat whiskers or found feathers or whatever!

Since most of my ceramic stuff is carved kr textured in some way, I usually end up putting a wash of dark underglaze after bisque fire to give the little lines some depth. For these, I did that to about half of them, and I let the porcelain shine through on the other half!

(perhaps a plumeria flower is too big for these, haha)

I love them so much! Especially with the big flower because it looks like the 'i’iwi is hiding under the petals. Your details are perfect and the resulting pieces have so much personality and charm.

I hope you keep a few examples of every batch of lovely pottery you make.

These are so sweet! I love the idea of having a special place to put a feather or seed pod stem found on a walk around the property.
