My nephew and his wife are due with their first baby this fall and I made this blanket for their little boy.
I have made a little tradition of making baby blankets for his siblings’ first born babies, too. A quilt would have been stepping on my SIL’s toes, since she also quilts, so a knitted blanket seemed appropriate. The pattern is the Lisbeth Blanket by Anja Heumann, the yarn is Sunday Worsted by Purl Soho. The pattern is great - simple enough to memorize but with enough detail to not be tedious. The yarn was downright fabulous. Soft, heavy, drapey, and not at all splitty. Bonus points for being machine wash and dry.
I was expecting a couple months of crafting time based on her due date, but I only got 5 weeks’ notice! The yarn was already on its way and I didn’t know if I’d be able to squeeze that much knitting into August. Somehow, I managed to finish on time. I didn’t use all 8 balls of yarn that I had figured on needing, but I stopped as soon as I managed a square because I was short on time. It ended up 40” square and weighs almost a pound and a half.
Absolutely gorgeous!! I can’t believe you finished so quickly. I’ll have to remember this yarn - it looks divine!

I am not usually drawn to solid colored yarn, but, with such a beautiful pattern, the stitches really pop with the color and type of yarn you chose!
I am also amazed at how fast you worked up the blanket of that size in such a short time frame. It is beautiful and will be a cherished gift for years.
Thank you! Their nursery theme was ‘Classic Golf.’ Lots of neutrals and warm, muted colors, plaids and solids, and cotton double-gauze/muslin. Can’t go wrong with ‘Heirloom White’ for that theme/color scheme.
The yarn is 70% organic cotton (un-mercerized) & 30% linen. It did shed a little, and I imagine the lint trap is going to be crazy after that first tumble dry. Don’t worry, I warned them! I also didn’t want to pre-wash it because people are often particular about their detergent, especially for baby.
