Little Cups with Native Birds

These little cups are finally finished! I’ve been working on building up a stash of birds for the Hawaii Island Festival of Birds this fall, and some of these will get stashed away for that.

I’ve been trying to do more birds that aren’t the 'i’iwi, but folks seem to like them so much, so I keep making those too.

This small batch also includes manu o kū (tern). Lately, my shore/seabirds have been getting rainbows too. :rainbow:
I believe manu o kū are only found on O’ahu island right now, and they actually tend to hang out in urban and suburban areas. It’s a little bit sad, but also kind of neat because they can be spotted by people in parks or on the university campus, etc. They bring fish all the way to their babies in trees!

Lovely as usual! It’s hard to resist your iwis so I can see why they’re so popular. Those rainbow terns are gorgeous too, though. You have such a beautiful, distinctive style with your pottery.

Aww thank you, everyone!

Beautiful work! I like the little feet you added to the cups and the carvings and painting is lovely!

This made me laugh as I imagined the bird accidentally dropping the fish and someone getting knocked on the noggin by a random flying fish .
