Some of my favorite things to make are little chimneys for burning incense cones!
I throw the main body on the wheel just like a small vase, and then trim and alter by cutting a hole in the side and adding legs.
I also like to decorate their surface in an interesting way… this time with sgrafffito cats and koki’o designs. I love that this way,
I can make an ”batch” of items that still hold individual one-of-a-kind uniqueness.
And also sorry for the photo spam, but I admit that I like trying to photograph the smoke while I test them to make sure nothing is going to fall over while burning.
These are amazing!!! I can just imagine smelling the incense right now!!!
The ones with the all over patterns and cut dots are my favorite, but the ones with just the flower are really nice too.
@Patraw All of the clay work is done before bisque fire. I guess preventing sagging just depends on knowing the clay body aim working with and trying to make sure everything is as balanced as possible. (I have had some get wonky sometimes, but I think it’s usually dependent on wall thickness and/or the size of the hole compared to the rest of the piece and whether or not there’s enough support to hold the top up!)
These are so cool! I love all the different textures and colors. I’m always on the lookout for a fun pretty way to burn my incense and these are perfect!
