Over the Christmas break I hosted two gal pals for a craft evening. The theme was clay ornaments for Christmas trees or figurines.
This was secretly a mission to use up and clear out my craft supplies.
I had a big brick of white sculpty already. No fancy clay tools were used, only wooden chopsticks, toothpicks, plastic forks and knives, and paper plates.
We then baked them in my toaster oven, and painted them with cheapy dollar store craft paint bottles. This worked so well because they were easy to blend colours and had a nice matte finish. I prefer this over coloured sculpty which is more expensive and harder to get the exact colours you want.
I loved doing this and I think I’ll make it an annual activity. It’s so fun to make these ornaments and immediately hang them on the tree!
Our end products are:
A cute cat, a potato chip, a mini croissant, a life sized dumpling, three little fried eggs, two mini baguettes.
These are awesome! I love the adorable eggs. The foods look so realistic that my kids thought I was looking at a cooking project, rather than sculptures. The paint works really well!
