I searched and searched for the perfect fabric for the kitchen roman shades. I haven’t found it yet. I did find an indigo-dyed fabric, but the woman would not ship to the US. This one is at least in the running. I wanted a dark orange/dark red and blue (royal, navy, or cobalt) mid-century or abstract print. I just haven’t found any that grabbed me.
So little llamas now dance in my kitchen. I used cheap cordless miniblinds, stripped the slats, then added the fabric. It is more complicated than that, but YouTube has some good tutorials. I chose to use Velcro to attach because I wanted it to be removable and washable. The loops attaching to the cord are stitch markers. They do slip off sometimes, but work pretty well.
This is late afternoon on a bitterly cold day. The window over the sink looks out on the porch and won’t be adjusted very often. The other window is south-facing, so it will get lots of use. It’s a nice finish to the kitchen. There are a few finishing bits left, but it is essentially finished.
Ooh that fabric is just fantastic, and they look so good! I got a roman blinds kit and some fabric and made my own 8 years or so ago and let me just say I didn’t do the best job, I’m kinda glad I left them behind when we moved house Yours look soooo much more professional than mine did!
It’s my third try. The first ones are.still up in the bedroom doi g their job. They are corded but work great. The first try at a miniblind flip are a bit wonky and are in the guest room.
I really tried my best at making these look good. Two measuring mistakes and two sneaky fixes. They make me happy.
