Long-Time-No-See! I scared myself with this one!

I have been busy and sorta forgot about this place. :open_mouth: I did make a few things in the last few years and wanted to say hello!

For Halloween last year I made this The Thing prop for my husband’s costume. We thought it would be funny if we were Kurt Russells. So I was Snake Pliskin from Escape From New York and he was McCready from the Thing. I couldn’t help it. I needed to make the thing.

And I scared the crap out of myself. Lol. I hope it doesn’t scare you too much!

Its made out of some surprising materials. Mostly, a lot of Dollar Tree Sesame Street foam clay on top of a featureless foam mannequin head, then wire, wool roving, liquid latex, acrylic paint, and some fun fur for the hair. It was a fun project. It lives in my basement now and I had to turn it around cuz it kept freaking me out when I’m trying to do laundry. :joy: I’d like to think I’ve finally surpassed my own expectations if I managed to disturb myself. Lol.

Welcome back! And WOW on the Thing. That would definitely keep me from doing the laundry if it was hanging out in the laundry room :joy:. It looks so realistic and perfect, especially considering the materials you used!

Thaaank yoouuu! I needed it to be light since my husband was going to be wearing it and I found that the foam clay from Dollar tree works WAY better and it’s a lot less expensive than Crayola foam clay. Crayola foam clay refuses to stick to itself. This stuff is lighter and much easier to work with. Definitely recommend! I’ve been slowly hoarding it by buying a few each time I go to dollar tree. They last for at least 3 years given the original ones I used were in my stash for that long.

Truly upsetting in the most deliciously awesome way! TheMisterT is a huge Kurt fan and Thing fan and Snake fan, so I am excited to tell him about this whole thing.
