Making double sided foam stamps with positive and negative images

I realised the other day that technically I have a youtube channel, and one of the only videos I have posted was a guide to how to make foam stamps with both positive and negative images.

These are made using self adhesive kids craft funky foam and foam board.

To get to the point where the video starts:

  • design your stamp
  • Transfer the design to the paper backing on the funky foam.
  • Cut the foam board to the same size as your funky foam rectangle
  • Using a sharp Stanley knife, xacto knife or similar, carefully cut your design out. Only cut on your drawn lines, don’t cut through any areas. This is the same process as if you are cutting a stencil
  • then the video guides you on how to make your reversible stamp

Making double sided positive and negative foam stamps

This is some of my stamps:

For the jar/vase with the sprigs coming from the top of it, the green leaves were added separately, as the pieces I tried to cut out of the main red foam were too small to use.

This is some prints I made using these stamps:

And here are some I made with different stamps of vases and plants:

They are all printed with acrylic paint, rolled onto the stamp with a foam roller, like the ones you get in a DIY/hardware shop.

I love your stamp designs and your prints! Some of them have a mid-century look. Someone mentioned vintage Pyrex look too.

I also like your technique for creating the stamps. How did you come up with your designs? They are all so coordinated. How do you cut such nice circles/dots?

This is great for fabric block printing. While the sound in your video was too muffled to understand, it was easy to follow your demonstration. Thanks for sharing your design and printing process. :yellow_heart:

Aw I’m sorry the sound was muffled. The video was done about 5 years ago on an old phone.

I think I might have cut the circles with a hole punch, just the regular kind for filing.

I did a lot of design work on a kitchen theme at that time, collecting pictures from magazines etc. and drawing or tracing things I liked. That gave me loads of ideas for stamps.

That’s a great idea. That’s ok about the video. Once I saw that I didn’t need to listen, I just avidly watched your good demonstration.
