Making floor cloths

I need advice. I am making my first floor cloth and instead of trying a small one with the most proven methods, I am making a nine by nine foot monster. Instead of using plain cotton canvas i thought it would be better to start with colored duck canvas. I have painted my design without base coats because it is the coror i wanted already. My question is… will it be stiff enough with 3 coats of polyurathane and no latex coat, otherwise a i have a can of clear spray latex i could do first. Will that be necassay, or can i get away with just the polyurethane

I imagine that the acrylic is meant to seal the painted part so it doesn’t run or smear when you add the polyurethane. Hopefully you have some of the duck and the paint left over and you can do a test swatch.
