My next Forbidden Movie Night is Duck Soup featuring the Marx Brothers! Theme being Black and White & Funky Hats. I got a bunch of black &white& gray decorations as well.
Duck Soup is my favorite Marx Brothers movie by far and absolutely bananas and most people I’ve talked to have never heard of it so Forbidden Movie Night it is! (If you need an explanation on that I informed Edel down in the comments) And as per usual, I need to make a themed felt bunting. I dunno why I insist on it being felt. It would certainly be easier to paint some parts if it were cotton fabric. Oh well.
It’s all felt, paint, hot glue, and then a silk ribbon. I layered felt in some places and got lazy in others. Lol
Just some info on Duck Soup if you want to watch it! The Marx Brothers are a vaudeville comedy troupe from the 1930s. (Not slapstick like the three Stooges which I can’t stand) They all play their same characters in each movie as Harpo, Groucho, and Chiko. It does have Zeppo (the fourth Marx brother) in it which I didn’t include, but he’s just the straight man and I don’t care about him lol. He’s in like 2 movies.
Duck Soup has nothing to do with ducks or soup. It’s a war parody/satire film and unlike other Marx Brothers movies there is no straight-man romance as a second story. It’s all just Marx Brothers being weird. Groucho is made emperor of a fake country called Freedonia and proceeds to be insane and run it into the ground.

These are amazing! The likeness of the marx brothers is spot on, and the letters are awesome. I can’t imagine your patience working with the felt for these. I’m pretty sure we watched Duck Soup in a class I took in high school, but that was… a long time ago, lol. I definitely want to try to rewatch it soon.

Mostly because it’s so weird and most people I know have never heard of it. I personally wouldn’t make it forbidden but I decided because it’s just fully out of operation at this point (not even boomers know about it when I ask lol) it makes for a Forbidden Movie.
Although if you mean “what is forbidden Movie night?” Then I’ll explain lol! Basically I host themed movie parties and make everyone watch insane movies I’ve found. Mostly it’s stuff that’s both obscure and probably should be thrown in a fire, but are still wildly entertaining. A few movies we’ve watched:

And while this one doesn’t quite fit the “wtf am I watching?” Concept I usually go with, I still want to do it. I mean most people would probably at some point in the movie question this.
I started Forbidden Movie Night because one time I spent a year trying to get ahold of a movie that it seems like someone is trying to suppress. It has never been on DVD, and has few VHS copies and a few laserdisc. It’s called Exit To Eden.
I wanted to watch it because it was one of the few Anne Rice books converted to movie format but when I read the movie synopsis I found out that instead of JUST a movie about a romance on a bdsm island (lmao) they decided to add a BUDDY COP COMEDY on top of it. Like, MOST of the movie is this buddy cop COMEDY with Dan Ackroyd and Rosie O’Donnell. It’s weird as heck! So I decided once I finally got ahold of this movie on VHS that I would hold a “Forbidden Movie Party” in defiance of whoever made this movie forbidden and was suppressing it. My bets are on Rosie or Anne Rice who are both very particular and bossy. I made it themed (cops and bdsm. without any actual … Bdsm … I just had food and decor I thought went with the theme lol) and then decided I wanted to keep doing it since parties with effort involved have kind of gone out of style. I want parties to be an event again!!
I was FAR too young when I saw this movie in a park back when I was a kid. My primary memory is that at some point, the literal film reel caught fire. (Lol, but not really because the city probably rented that. ) I think I need to give it another viewing, for sure!
Lol does it have it?! I’m curious! It’s not nearly as entertaining as the other movies I’ve watched on FMN and the romance is the straight-man so it’s not great for a party, necessarily. BUT I went into it blind and we watched it anyway. Lol
I just looked it up on Google and now they’re selling DVDs though some are oddly expensive. This was not the case 3 years ago.
They do! They have a dvd of it. MM has been around for forever, and they are usually good for obscure movies. I also always recommend them for out of towners, because they have a huge collection of movie props and costumes.
