Mausoleum Halloween Chunky House

I had to make a new chunky house for @Reese52 because the other ones got lost! :sob:

I wanted it to be a bit dimensional so I layered some cardboard and art papers from a pack at dollar tree. The gray paper had a bit of a stone texture/look to it but it’s integrity it’s kind of weak so I modge-podged everything.

I was inspired by southern mausoleums and I saw one that had a red gate so I used some plastic sheets I saved from something and I used a red acrylic paint pen to make the gate design on both sides.

I tried to use some of Reese’s prompts but stuff kinda just went in one direction and I ran with it. She had red, purple and black as color preferences and that made me think of old Gothic stuff hence the mausoleum and she also had Day of the Dead so inside is a Dia De Los Muertos skeleton heading out to attend the celebrations. I’m guessing she’s gonna have to take her hat off to fit through the door? Lol don’t wear such a big hat next time, lady.

I used a felt tip black pen and some black stamp ink for the edges and details and then the skeleton was done in colored pencil. The clouds are white colored pencil on top of dark scrapbook paper and white paint. The moon is some fake-aged scrap book paper with some colored pencil.

Thanks for looking!

This is fantastic! I love the clouds and moon in the background!

We have a very old church in Harrisburg that has a red carved wood door. It is beautiful and eerie at the same time.

I like this one a lot (the hands must have taken a lot of time to do!! Great details!)

I loved your original chunky houses, but I adore this one even more! That church is fantastic, the colors dreamy, and the overall look perfection!

Thank you! It’s a mausoleum not a church. Hence the skeleton lady’s size. Single service mausoleum. Lol.

This is so dang cool. So much great detail w/o looking fussy or overdone at all. It really seems to tell a story. I love that you repurposed some rescued plastic for the doors.

Thanks so much! I’m glad it doesn’t look fuzzy or overdone. I feel like I do that a lot! It’s hard to know when to stop, sometimes.

Thanks! Although I feel like at this point they aren’t chunky anymore? I think originally the houses were supposed to be less detailed, if I’m not mistaken? Lol. This thing took me hours.

Just browsing through some recommended topics and this came up. I love it so much I had to stop and let you know! I really got the southern Gothic influence, but also loved how it felt Dia de los Muertos inspired!
