Maximum amount of spam reported

As I’m sure you guys have noticed by now, we were invaded by a bunch of spammers :frowning: I flagged a bunch of them so at least I wouldn’t see them anymore, but after a few minutes I got this:

An error occurred: You’ve performed this action too many times. Please wait 23 hours before trying again.

Seems there’s a maximum amount of topics you can flag in a day. In a case like this, is it even helpful for you guys if I flag all these threads manually, or is it enough to flag just one of them? I was just flagging topics I came across because I wanted to hide them, but now I’m thinking maybe I’m just spamming your inbox! It’s clear enough who the spammers are.

I started flagging, but the same thought came to me? Do I need to flag them all? But I see now that I have like 49 New topics, but I only saw 2 (real posts). So maybe someone is on it, and have hidden them at least?

It looks like @gozer handled most of your flags. :woman_superhero: Thank you so much for being vigilant! The flags certainly help, but in this case since there were so many, flagging a few and maybe PMing the mods would be ok, too.

@sweets4ever I wonder if we could temporarily pause new user signups for a day or two? Not ideal but might stop the influx.

Flagging does help. I was able to delete a lot of them quickly and in one place this morning. Thanks so much @Immaculata @skrutt and everyone else who is flagging! Keep up the good work. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

To our awesome users who are flagging: Yes, the flagging does help. We could of course come across them on our own, but when you flag, we get it as a little red icon on our profile icon, in the upper right. Same way we’d see a reply to a post, etc. From there, the site allows the Mods to Agree with the flag and block the user at the same time, so it makes it much faster for us to zap a bunch of them very quickly.

I hit 8 before bedtime, and another 6 just now, made all the easier by @AntBee flagging them. Thanks Jen!!!

Talking with another admin friend and they experienced the same this week. :frowning: I might pause sign ups for a few days. I hate to do so with the holidays here, but don’t want everyone to keep being affected in this way.

Also, I just bumped this number up. I know we don’t seem to have many instances like this, but it’s so helpful for us when we do (for you guys to flag!). Thank you for zipping through them so quickly.

Over the past couple of days I’ve seen dozens, but our mods have worked hard to remove them quickly. The ones I’ve flagged were pretty obvious - call this number and get a loan, buy illegal drugs from this place, etc. Both replies to old threads and new threads started by the spammers.

Thanks for bumping the number up @sweets4ever ! It’s clear what we have to do - we flag, flag, flag, so the mods can delete, delete, delete! It’s a team effort - with all the different time zones we’re in I’m sure there’s someone online almost 24/7.

Yes! It’s a great community moderation tool. A single flag sends it to a review queue for us, but multiple flags hides it entirely, which is awesome. It allows everyone to work together to get it off our screens quickly. I really do love this feature about our platform. Fortunately/unfortunately, we haven’t gotten to actually experience it much. :smile:

Yes, we’re keeping an eye on them. I have not disabled account creations as of yet.
