Memorial Marker for Our Pets

summer we finally laid to rest the cremains of our 3 dogs, here on our property. We chose a spot near a Douglas Fir tree that was one of Delia’s special spots to survey her domain. She liked to sit under that tree and watch the lower parts of the property and would stay in its shelter if it rained before she was ready to come in.

The stones mark where they are so we will always know.

I used aluminum from a beverage can and my Sizzix to cut the plaques. They’re stamped with metal letter stamps and screwed to a piece of cedar board I cut to size and cut the corners. All things I had on hand. I made a couple extra plaques in case I messed up the letters and because as anyone who loves pets knows, we lose them. This is why there is room on the cedar as well.

The aluminum and cedar should both hold up fairly well outside, sheltered under the tree.

Oh my Friend, this is so heartbreaking, but so sweet at the same time. :broken_heart:

Thank you! It was bitter-sweet for sure, but it feels good to have their spot marked and commemorated.

It’s so bittersweet. We cherish the memories of the pets we’ve lost, don’t we? This is a lovely memorial.

Thank you. I’m hoping that the cedar will darken and the aluminum will oxidize so it will blend in to the forest a bit. A subtle, quiet place to spend a moment with our memories.

Very sweet. We have a spot in my parents backyard like this. We can look out the window and be comforted knowing they are still near. Lovely way of keeping yours with the environment.
