May has become the focus of so many art challenges and shared themes: Mushroom May, Monster May (with LC’s own Monster Jam), and the most popular across the internet, Mer-May.
Earlier this month I made some mushroom cards and a couple sets of monster cards. But no mermaid cards in sight. I fixed that today. These cards will go into my shop for STS in the fall.
For the base, I used a $1 card set I picked up in the Target deals section. The cards have the prettiest envelopes and the teal card color was perfect as a frame for my mermaid cards.
Tail shimmer!
The cards themselves are relatively simple (though as usual took me three hours from start to finish).
I started by using shimmery watercolors to paint mermaid tales on mixed media and cardstock paper (two each).
When they were dry, I added details with waterproof ink and cut them out.
For the backgrounds, I cut panels from white card stock and then used 3 different colors of blue Distress Ink dilluted with water to create the splashes and ink smooshes.
I stamped a sentiment that seemed to fit and used foam tape to attach the tails. For the final step, I used double-sided tape to attach the panels to my card bases.
