We moved into our little cape in 2007 and this closet has been a catch all. The dining room was likely a former bedroom and someone added fake wood contact paper and shelves. Now it’s the cat food/vacuum/lightbulb /random gardening stuff/old electronic cords/etc. catch all.
Time for a remake. There is less storage but it is 100 times more functional. And it cost nothing but time. I’m not a fan of decorated closets, I go for functional!
There were some minor hiccups along the way, like a one inch discrepancy from bottom to top on shelf size, discovered after the shelves were cut and painted. Ugh. There’s a bit tof making do in construction, nothing in this 1950s house is square anymore, but I am so happy.

Amazing transformation! A better functioning storage space is way more appealing to me than simply more cubic inches, which often just leads useful to stuff getting forgotten and useless stuff staying in the house.

It’s so much brighter and more useable now! I love the shelves you added and the niche for the vacuum cleaner. You have me eyeing the closets in our house now .

So much better! I think it’s pretty and functional!
Painting it white really brightens the space, and the shelving layout makes way more sense. This is fabulous!
Great job making it work for you dear!
