The idea came to me when I came across a piece of mylar in my supplies (remember my Candy Corn Quilt Shoppe quilts? That’s where I learned that I could embroider mylar onto a design! Kimberbell designed the CCQS and I really have learned a lot of new techniques from stitching out their embroidery designs!).
I knew that I wanted to put that mylar to good use and started looking for embroidery designs that featured flowers in a jar or vase. This design was not digitized for cardstock, but awhile ago, I came across a very helpful post on how to machine embroider any design on cardstock. I stitched out the flowers and when it came time to stitch the jar, I added the mylar. The color of the mylar changes depending on the angle that you look at the card.
@AIMR, thank you so much for the compliment! I hope you do start using your embroidery machine again, as you may have noticed from my recent projects, I absolutely love creating with mine! I highly recommend checking out Kimberbell or even signing up for their monthly ME Time subscriptions. They have a ton of fun designs and I definitely have learned a bunch of new techniques through their projects!
Thank you, both! The Mylar is a fun element to work with.
There’s an embroidery design company called Purely Gates and all of their designs are intended to be stitched over Mylar. It creates such a beautiful effect. The first time I came across their designs, I thought it was all done with some specialty metallic thread. I haven’t stitched any of their designs yet, but one of these days…
