I made this hoopla for @Annchen in the Postive Affirmations R5 swap. She had sooooo many fun quotes and affirmations I agonized for ages over what to make. We both share a love of snark and crows and when this idea popped in my head, I decided to run with it.

I adore Little Dear’s embroidery work. For many of her pieces she has the design printed on fabric and then adds embroidery detail to bring the pieces to life. That’s the style I wanted to capture.
First, I created an illustration in Photoshop. The crow is my own design and the yellow background with flowers was a free vector from Pixaby. I played with several backgrounds before settling on that one.
Next I printed my design on fabric using my inkjet printer. My fabric was a medium weight canvas because I was trying to just use stash for this project. My printer HATED it and jammed twice (hence the ink smutz on the final print). After printing, I ironed the design to heat set it a bit.
I used 1 strand of black DMC floss for the crow detail and 1 strand of white. The lettering uses 2 strands of black and if I had it to do over I’d use 1 strand there as well. The purple flowers are 2 strands and greenery is 1. Because the piece is so tiny, less floss was better.
