Mushrooms & Mini Houses

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at pottery and this year I finally took a class at a local art studio. I made a water cup and brush holder. I’m thrilled with how they came out and had so much fun making them!

I added two depressions on either side of the watercup so I can rest my brush on top. For the brush holder, I decorated 3 of the 4 sides and layered the glaze on the plants and door for a variegated effect.

I originally intended to use the brush holder as a planter but decided I like it better for my brushes.

When I painted my pieces with glaze I had a kitty helper who lives at the art studio: JoJo.

These are soo cute! I love them as a brush holder/water cup combo. The indentations on the water cup is genius!

How cool to make cute items that you can actual use to make more cute items!

These were meant to be used for your paint brushes!

These are fantastic. I hope you continue to make more. I’d love to see them.
PS. Jojo is a cutie. I’d go back just to hang with them.

Thank you, @jemimah, @photojenn, @Abbeeroad, @AIMR, @gozer, and @TheMistressT!

@Manders & @Bunny1kenobi - :joy:, thanks for the vote of confidence! The answer is yarn. I’m hopeless at anything involving yarn. If I ever get full of myself I just need to pick up some knitting needles and within two minutes I’ll be staring at a tangled mess and questioning my life choices.

I am so glad I assessed my crafting life a few years ago. Yes, all of us could probably learn all the skills because we are smart and talented, but, that doesn’t mean we are going to enjoy it or even be good at it. I gave up anything clay because I suck at 3-D. I gave up jewelry because it is tedious for me and I don’t have any jewelry imagination. etc. etc. I gave many of them a go to at least see if there was interest or talent and ended up picking sewing, needlework, and knitting/crocheting (but not amigurumis…I do them, but not well or intentionally!).

I say stick to what you love and become the best you can at it. Swap for things you want that are not in your bailiwick.

That’s very good advice! I love trying all the things, but realistically, I get deeper joy out of narrowing my focus a bit. I had a real hankering to take up pottery for several years. I did a couple of workshops which were super fun! But my mug, which I was so proud of, developed a big air bubble in the kiln, so it’s way too wonky to use (I still love it though). I like to imagine that there’s an alternate universe where there’s another me who’s a happy potter. But in this one, I think art and sewing and writing (and a little knitting and bits and pieces) is more than enough for this lifetime.
