Here it is all folded up. The idea was pretty simple, but it was my first time dealing with so much fabric all at once. I don’t think it did a perfect job, but I’m really proud of it. Lol.
Close up of the fabrics! The patterned fabric is dogs on beach blankets with umbrellas. The back side is navy minky. This was also my first time seeing minky and I didn’t expect navy fuzz to get EVERYWHERE….but it did. Still covering my sewing space but I threw in the towel and went to bed.
Here is the tutorial I followed on YouTube if anyone is interested:
100% hear you on the cost of fabric! I have some minky I bought at Joanne’s in the last days of the store for a blanket for my mom and that was still expensive. Also, not looking forward to minky fuzz getting everywhere!
It looks really good! And the print is amazing, great choices!
Yes, fabric can get so expensive. Obviously it depends on where you shop but where a few decades ago homemade would always be cheaper, that’s certainly not the case today. But in my experience, the fabric that’s for sale is usually a better quality than some of the finished items you can buy in shop. So this blanket might still look great after a few dozen washes, while purchased blankets have fallen apart.
Super cute and minky isn’t the easiest to sew. If I remember correctly, it shifts. Great job on it and I am sure your friend will love it. The dog fabric is adorable.
@gozer thank you! Yea the minky was tricky for sure! I think because I used the minky I didn’t have to use any batting though, which sounds more confusing to me.
@TheMistressT thank you! My friend really liked it. I stuck to the color choices she requested. And thank you! I’m actually in the hospital right now laboring to get the new baby out lol.
Minky is a difficult fabric to work with, but you wouldn’t know it looking at your blanket, it looks great! Of course your friend liked it, it turned out cute and cozy!
I hope all goes well and you and your new baby are home soon - congratulations!
