My First Socks!

I’m so excited to have finished my first socks! Are they chock full of mistakes? Yes. Do I care? No. The whole point was to learn and I did that.

These are the Splendid Heavy Socks from Lucy Neatby’s “My First Socks” class on Craftsy. They’re made in random worsted weight acrylic and are more like a slipper sock situation, but definitely functional enough to wear around the house. And they accomplished the main goal of learning how to make socks! I bought the class in 2014-2015 ish, and I’ve been (very slowly) getting through it. I would stop, often for years, each time I got intimidated, but we got there in the end.

I’ve already swatched for and cast on my first pair of fingering weight “real” socks as well, so hopefully I can keep the momentum going!

Nice!! I like that the socks are different colours but also clearly belong together, very clever! Can’t wait to see the new socks you’ve cast on.

That is a great accomplishment!

I really like the yarn you’re using for that second pair, too.

congrats!! It is a real feeling of accomplishment when you actually turn out something that looks like an actual SOCK!! Yours look great.
My first sock was also out of acrylic and also thick, so they are house socks, but they have held up for years
Good luck with the fingering weight ones! That is something I actually haven’t attempted yet
