I’ve had “knit a sweater” on my yearly resolutions list for at least a couple years now. I was determined this year would be the year! But the construction of a sweater proved intimidating and I didn’t want invest time and money in a pattern I wasn’t excited about making just to learn the basics. When my local yarn shop (Yarnia!) posted a class for Kate Davies’ Carbeth sweater, I jumped at the opportunity to learn not only how to make a sweater, but a truly awesome one. The hands-on help and guidance and the motivation to complete each step before the next week’s class were invaluable!
My son admired the finished product so much I gave it to him. He’s also my model for these pics.
We used malabrigo chunky yarn in the class at the teacher’s recommendation. I chose the colorway “Forest.” It was a wonderful yarn to work with, but is true to it’s name - a bit bulky and heavy.
It came out so perfect! And it fits him great, which I suppose is good AND bad as it means it was not staying in your closet. Although one could argue you could wear it out on occasion, too, (as long as that doesn’t kill its cool-factor for him lol)
It looks sooooooo good. You did a fantastic job and that colorway is scrumptious.

It turned out great! I think the entire yoke/neckline area is the coolest look…very futuristic looking. No wonder your young man loved it! He looks great in it and it looks like he already knows how to style it perfectly! WOW!
er…sorry that you didn’t get to keep it, but I am sure you learned enough to make one for yourself more to your liking! Great job, and congrats on finishing your first sweater!
What a great looking sweater! I really like that colorway. Congratulations on developing your skills as well as becoming and in-demand sweater maker! I can’t wait to see what other sweaters you make.
