Mystery Solved! - Starlight Mini Mystery Quilt

At the end of May, Mystery Five-O offered a one day mini mystery quilt, called the Starlight Mini Mystery. This mystery quilt was offered through various quilt shops and hosted on their Facebook pages. @AIMR and I both decided to participate through different quilt shops.
Each quilt shop curated and sold their own fabric bundles for the mystery quilt (or you had the option of using fabric from stash). When AIMR posted an intriguing description of the fabric bundle that she had purchased I had to check it out. I instantly fell in love with the fabric and ordered myself a bundle.

The mystery clues were released every half hour and I was able to complete the first two as they were released, but then mama duties called and I had to put the rest of it off for the time being. That ended up working in my favor. Later that day, I ended up checking in with AIMR to see how her quilt was coming along. She mentioned that the fabric from clue #3 (the focus fabric of the quilt) would end up being on point, which was not mentioned in the cutting instructions. On point meant that the square for clue 3 would be rotated so that it was a diamond rather than a square. This knowledge allowed me to create a template so I could see how my middle piece would look and it truly made a huge difference to the final outcome of my quilt! I absolutely love my center square - for me it has a feeling reminiscent of books where where the characters encounter a whole new world previously unseen by human eyes (like Journey to the Center of the Earth).

I did not baste the quilt when I did the quilting (I figured it was small enough and the batting grippy enough that it would keep everything in place). As a result the backing is not quilted as taut as I’d like. After seeing the loose-ish backing, I picked up some basting spray to baste the outside edges before adding the binding. While picking up the basting spray, I also purchased the perfect quilt label!

Overall, I love my quilt and I’m so pleased with how it came out!

This is so gorgeous. The favpbric bundle is beautiful, and I love the cutting decisions you made, they came out great with the swooping lines on the back framing the centre diamond.

And the label is so cute :heart_eyes_cat: Thanks for sharing it.

With that center fabric and the dark strips at the edges there is a sort of mesmerizing, kaleidoscope look with this piece. Very cool! And that tag is just right!
