Nerd Games - Winter 2025

Oh! Thats an awesome idea! Thanks!

@Tapestry - pretty pottery! It is such an involved craft, with so many steps and I don’t know if you really ever know exactly what it will look like in the end until it’s actually finished. People who paint with glazes are so impressive!

My Madlib:

Smeddley wanted to make a SPACE-themed craft (yay!)
using or inspired by PLASTIC. (oh no…)
It featured a variety of colors including
SILVER and BLACK. (that’s going to look like I cheated, but I didn’t, I swear!)
Everyone remarked how
SUBTLE (oh… oh NO) and THOUGHTFUL (um… uh… oooookay…)
it looked when they gazed upon the finished project.

I have NO IDEA where to go with this. At first I thought maybe a miniature spaceship cabin from plastic scraps a la Studson Studios (only not nearly as good, obviously) but subtle and thoughtful? Huh…

It started out so well, too, with the space theme! :smiley:

Loving these MadLibs! For the materials one, you don’t have to use that material, it just has to be inspired by that material, if that makes it any easier for anyone. Maybe it doesn’t. :joy:

Here’s my MadLib

ezrib wanted to make a CARTOON themed craft
using or inspired by FABRIC.
It featured a variety of colors including
TAN and GREY. (hmm, not my colors normally)
Everyone remarked how
JOLLY and THOUGHTFUL
it looked when they gazed upon the finished project.

Here’s my madlib:

LindyBlues wanted to make a fandom-themed craft using or inspired by wood. It featured a variety of colors including gray and gold. Everyone remarked how hard and thoughtful it looked when they gazed upon the finished project.

I have something in mind already, though I may stretch the definition of thoughtful :joy: Perhaps an evil character can be “thoughtful” about how he’ll treat his enemies… as in thinking hard about how badly he’ll treat them :joy:

@Tapestry I love the cup and paintbrush holder; the colours on the cup holder especially pop out and make me want to look closer at the details. Your madlib made me chuckle :joy: Good luck!

It could be using or “inspired by” metal, so for someone like me, who does a lot of paper crafting, I would interpret that as using, for example, a metallic marker for something. Or it could be inspired by something that is made of metal or that recalls metal of some kind. For example, someone who gets Fandom and “inspired by metal” could draw Wolverine’s claws or even make them out of a different material and paint them to look like metal. I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Lots of thoughtful crafting this season :laughing:

Project Name: Handbound book for me!
Project Link: Another handbound book--this one is for me!
Brief Description: This project hits every single one of the explanations of this prompt. Firstly, it is literally a journal. It is made of paper. It is artsy, if I do say so myself. It was glued after being sewn. And the paper is watercolour paper that has little rasied “dots” on one side :blush:.

Prompt: January Battle- Squirrels at a Rave
Team: Bits and Bobs
Project Name: Gnome Towel Holder
Project Link: I will look for my original project post…
Brief Description: *If you saw the project bag for this- all supplies AND the pattern are together- you might think I had my ducks in a row, but I only found the project bag, buried in the general chaos, when I was looking for something else. I actually made another one (in red) before Christmas, but didn’t photograph it before sending. And, I started this one two weeks ago, but only finished it last night. And also forgot to take the photo before giving it to the recipient. She kindly took the photo for me.

In any case… there is a plastic ring crocheted into the hat to hold the towel. The towel forms the beard.*

It feels like I hibernated most of January, my brothers say my totem animal is Snorlax.

I had a go at the MadLibs, so here’s mine:

Tanath wanted to make a weather- themed craft using or inspired by plastic.
It featured a variety of colors including purple and red.
Everyone remarked how peculiar and elegant it looked when they gazed upon the finished project.

Peculiar and elegant are a challenging combo, I wonder what I will come up with.

I always keep up with reading this thread, but, like this month’s theme, having all my ducks in a row to be more active isn’t easy.
@Tapestry - way to kick off this round of the games, your ceramics are so cute. I love the plants around the mini hours.
@LindyBlues - salmon and potatoes are a great combination. Mashed potatoes would never make it to the freezer at my house, they get devoured quickly, no matter how much we make. I like the papers you chose for your book, and the envelopes look great.
@gozer - your ornaments are great. Roaches gross me out, so I would probably make sure to always have the fly facing outward on the bug one. The pillowcase is wonderful for your little warrior, sort of depicting her triumphant battles :smile_cat:
@AudiobookLover - it seems I should not be browsing LC on an empty stomach, your tortellini looks yummy.
@storerboughtcreation - the mosaic blanket is wonderful, I love black and white with a pop of color. And your hippo is so sweet.
@Bunny1kenobi - I like the colors you used for the mandala, it’s a nice bright combo.
@craftADDchick - the behind the scenes in your project description sounds very familiar :smile: The gnome is cute, I wonder what he would look like with random colored beards.
@ezrib - more yummy food! I also try to meal prep when I can, it’s a great feeling when you know you have good food ready and waiting to be eaten. Your meal looks very satisfying.

Prompt: January Battle - Squirrels at a Rave
Team: Bits and Bobs
Project Name: Rice packs
Project Link:
Brief Description: My biggest holiday gift buffet got cancelled because of a snow storm. I was sooo sad. We rescheduled it for this month. With it being cancelled, I abandoned all my night-before projects back then and just finished them up last week. My messy life and procrastination are my squirrels at a rave. I have more to post and am heading out of town, so will be back to share them in Feb! :slight_smile:

@Lindyblues
Ah, I love the journal, I need to get back into bookbinding, I really enjoyed it but it is a lot of work. Yours turned out beautifully! And the envelopes are a great idea.

@Gozer
Always with the amazing art!

@storerboughtcreation
Beautiful blanket, and great amigurumi (as always!)

@Bunny1kenobi
Love the “ducky” color scheme on the mandala!

@CraftADDchick
Love the gnome! I need to make one and sneak it into my friend’s house, though she swears she will disown us if we put any more gnomes in her house…

@Lovelymiss
Very pretty hot/cold packs, and what a great gift idea!

Prompt: January Battle - Squirrels at a Rave
Team: Knotty by Nature
Project Name: Little Wren
Project Link: N/A
Brief Description: This is a prize for the football pool I’m running at work, it’s the “Early Bird Gets the Worm” prize for getting your picks in every week the soonest. And it fits the prompt in two ways, one is that squirrels always terrorize birdfeeders in the most chaotic way ever, and my running of this entire football pool has been chaotic and unpredictable and barely held together with coffee and sarcasm. One more week!
