It’s a never ending quest for me to maximise every inch of storage space in my studio. I had this space that was holding a couple of cardboard boxes of fabric scrap. But it definitely could look better
I got two small wooden wine racks from IKEA-cheap and extremely well made.
Then using inspiration from karen brown of ‘just get it done quilts’ I made some foam core drawers. There was a lot of futzing and trimming to get these right. Not to mention hot glue burns
The actual units are sitting half on and half off a counter top, which was screwed to a top underneath. (This is my fabric cutting bench) So rather than do more futzing with trimming the legs, I turned to my trusty technique of using the correct size books to chock them up.
The fronts of the drawers have some paper I marbelled-this was a nightmare! It bubbled a little bit, but I was able to smooth it down, then I applied a layer of gloss medium to the top to protect it, and it bubbled like mad, trying to flatten removed some of the ink… So I had to walk away. But it actually turned out ok.
@MistressJennie had put me on to the idea of processing scrap fabric, so if I can cut 2.5" strips, then I will. So the fourth drawer is a mix of colours.
And there was room to squeeze two shallow drawers at the top. For small jelly rolls and orphans.
And I’ve instituted rules for myself.

Once a drawer gets full, I need to make a scrap quilt.

this is my only scrap storage.
People’s definition of what size is small enough for scrap is different. If a piece is bigger than about 6*6 that’s not a scrap to me. It goes on a shelf with its colour family, so I figure this small area is big enough otherwise I’ll get overwhelmed. I also don’t keep tiny scraps. They go in the bin
Some of these drawers are getting quite full!
