Nightingale and Hollyhock Kanzashi Set

Here’s one of my favorite new pieces for this year so far - a nightingale and hollyhock two-piece kanzashi set. Originally it was meant to be one large piece, but I split it into two to make it more wearable.

This was a set I actually made as the final for my tsumami-zaiku teaching certification. We had to create a final piece that displays our knowledge of tsumami-zaiku crafting tecuniques, so it’s got a little bit of everything.

I also paid special attention to the back of the piece, since this was something that the crafting council commented on during my jurying a while back. I was successful in become a juried member of the council, but I took the comments to heart and think a little bit more about the back of my pieces now.

I also made a video series on the development and creation of this set, which you can see here.
