This was a commission for my fashion-obsessed son for his 17th birthday. He showed me a picture of the below Number (N)ine Autumn/Winter ‘02 Nowhere Man knitted pouch and asked if I could make something similar.
I used a free pattern on Ravelry as the base. I drew out the pattern on graph paper and adjusted the stitch count to match what I needed to make it work. My husband helped me with the pattern math.
Overall it was a fun little project. Kiddo is happy and I’m pretty proud of the end result. I do wish I’d rounded the bottom to match a little more closely, but I can live with that self criticism, ha! Thanks for looking.

What a fun different knit project! The colorwork is nice as is the cord. Also sounds like it was a great family collaboration.
I’ve been pondering this all night, and I have to ask… Since I doubt he’s headed to Renn Faire this week, where/how does a 17 year old carry and use a drawstring pouch? Does it go on a belt? Does it go in a pocket? (And does a portable pocket inside a pants pocket make it the bag equivelant of “a hat on a hat”?) I’m always amazed by the stuff your son takes an interest in. What brought him to a vintage (holy f*@&, how is something made in the 2000’s now vintage!!!) knitted drawstring pouch? Inquiring weird pseudo-aunties want to know…
Haha. That is an excellent question. I’m honestly not sure what he is doing with it. I suspect is it housing some ahem questionable items.
As far as 2000 vintage, authentic 90s/00s clothing and accessories are very in right now (at least with a subset of Gen Zers). The inspiration pouch is listed on a second hand app called grailed, where my son curates all his favorite fashion finds. A lot are Japanese designers/brands from the 90s and early 2000s!
ETA: I have been informed that it WILL be hanging from his belt loop!
