The octopus is inspired by my light up swap partner’s octopus theme. Originally I tried to make something else, but I wasn’t loving it so I figured I should return to what I consider my primary craft skill - sewing. I did a little research for inspiration and found sculptures and drawings showcasing the critters carrying lanterns.
So I bought these plastic mini-mason jars, dyed them with blue and gold alcohol ink, added a little wire handle, and knotted some twine around them. Because many of the sculptures include three lanterns and because an octopus has three hearts, I went with three.
What a cute idea! Your octopus is fantastic and so very, very cool. I love his expression.

Did you make your own pattern?! This is fantastic…the details, like dyeing the little mason jars and the knot holders really take this to a new level. I love that you made something special for your partner based on her likes and interest. WOW…great job!
This is so cool. I love all the details in theblanterns, including the “triple-ness.” I imagine this octo being a guide for drown sailors or something both spooky and kind.
I love the rustic twine combined with the fun polka dot legs, but the whole thing is great. The eyes and the expression are also priceless. What a magnificent idea!
This guy is SO COOL!!! He has so much personality all by himself, and then gives such awesome deep sea mystery vibes once he’s holding his lanterns. It makes me want to read a strange and eerie tale about him while drinking hot cocoa by a warm fire. Thank you for sharing the octopus pattern, too!
