Oil painting tips?

Hi all!
Something possessed me to get some oil paints to try. (I used to mess around with them a few decades ago, but never really knew what I was doing.)

Before I jump all in and start just playing around again, I’d love to hear if anyone has an tips or resources that you love for beginners working with the medium!

I prefer to go solvent-free, so I’m planning to just use linseed oil and then mineral oil/dawn detergent for cleaning.

I think my main specific question at this point is what kind of brushes people like?
I have it in my head that I need stiff brushes, but I feel like that’s not necessarily right. I like being able to use stiff brushes to push the paint around, but then all the brush marks are showing up everywhere. Is any kind of brush good? I have softer ones for acrylic and sable brushes for watercolor, and I’m happy to designate some of those for oil instead too!

Anyway, I was dragging my feet on getting started, but finally just spent a little time this morning playing with some avocados on a small 6" x 6" canvas I had. It’s not great, but it’s fun to feel these paints again!

I’m seriously interested in any or all resources y’all have found helpful!
Thank you!
