Ollie's Library Diorama

I am a dog walker and I’ve been walking my clients’ dog, Ollie, for the last eight years. Ollie’s parents and I have become good friends and I adore them. Unfortunately they moved about thirty minutes away into a retirement community but I couldn’t just give them up!! So I go over there once a week. Ollie’s dad got really sick recently and I wanted to make him something. At first I tried to make a model of his red MG 52’ but that was really difficult. :sob: I had no idea what I was doing. I had a recollection that he loves Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and some other mystery writers so I made a mystery library with Ollie sitting in a comfy old armchair. I was actually really surprised how well I sculpted Ollie.

I used a 5-sided glass box from Michael’s for this and just covered up the other glass so that I could have a dust cover for the diorama.

Here’s a picture of Ollie for reference:

Thanks for looking!

The details are fantastic! I am impressed by the feet on the table!

You did a great job with Ollie! I did a close-up and just know all those curls took a long time!

What a lovely story as well!

This is utterly delightful! You’ve made it wonderfully detailed, but not at all crowded - no stuff for stuff’s sake. Ollie looks so good! I would probably cry if I were Ollie’s parents and was presented with this super thoughtful gift.

Thank you! There are a few flaws I can see that are driving me nuts but I’m sure nobody else notices. :joy:

Thank you!

@AIMR thanks! The table legs are beads and a dowel that I painted good. The curls are little balls of clay that I pressed on and made divots in. It took some time but not too much!

@Rlynn @madebyBeaG @AntBee @MissingWillow Thanks so much!!!

@TheMistressT thank you! That’s good to hear! I was worried I didn’t have enough stuff in there. I wanted to make a globe but it wasn’t as fast to make as a wanted and I felt like I needed to just finish it. It was faster to just make a few more books. All the pages and stuff are made from actual pages of an old paperback Sherlock Holmes collection.

Aw, how sweet! This is the kind of gift that makes people cry (in a good way).

Good likeness of the doggie. I love that you used an actual Sherlock Holmes paperback to make the books.

This is insanely amazing! I love everything about it! I have a thing for animals reading, so this hits my heart. Ollie looks amazing! You are the sweetest to make this as a gift.

Thanks so much! It doubles as a night light! The light in there is pretty bright. I just wish I could have gotten it to him when he was in the hospital so he could have a comfy little room to look at.

Thank you! I dunno why I just need to see animals doing human things. I was watching the Busy World of Richard Scarry the other day… :joy: So comforting.
