On the Square (bracelets on 3D printed frame)

Years ago I was able to buy metal square bracelet frames from Walmart - used for the wire jewelry fad popular at the time. I wish I could still find them (and I’ve looked).

I do have a pattern to print the frames with our 3D printer. We had to increase the thickness to make them a bit more robust, but I still managed to find new weaknesses:

Now there is a very precise way to calculate how much fiber is needed and how to lay it all out to shrink onto the frame, but that’s a lot more time consuming than I care to apply and I do like to see if I can figure out shortcuts that may eventually be useful to others who also don’t want to do the ultra thorough approach. There another shortcut that I may try the next time I do one of these square bracelets.

New weakness: 3D printed bracelet frames can go a bit wonky in hot water!

I adjusted it as much as was possible and it’s not so wonky as to abandon. I rather like it.

I made a point of NOT using really hot water when wet felting the foundation on this bracelet. These colors were chosen because of a post @AIMR made about an afgan she created in these colors years ago.

Fun projects. Learned a bunch of things.

This is the basic frame, but not as robust as the one I’m using now. We thickened everything a bit.

Neat! That makes it even cooler to me.

These are very, very cool! I’m glad you found a way to make the frames and that you’re figuring out how to make them even better.

Your embroidery on those bracelets are beautiful and really enhance the colors!

You have also validated why I miss that blanket so much…the colors spoke to me and I let them go!
