Ughhh I’m having a “hey kids, get off my lawn” moment and thought I’d share. I (recently-ish) started a tiktok account for my art and craft stuff. (I’m not new to tt, I’ve had my doom-scrolling account for years, but thought it might be fun to train a more positive algorithm, haha.) It seems like I’ve hit a swarm of folks just hustling to sell ACEOs, and other people who are basically like “omg should i sell aceos?” and it’s driving me a little batty. Yes, I sell art, but I made a deal with myself a long time ago that I would only ever swap artist cards. Anyway, against my better judgement I just responded to someone asking if they should start making/selling with something along the lines of how I only make ATCs because my favorite part is the connection among humans and makers, etc etc…
One person literally responded by saying that the difference is ACEOs are all original and ATCs can be copies. I’m trying to sit on my hands to not get into a spat. But I don’t know where folks are getting these acronyms from if they don’t know what they stand for and/or mean?
Anyway, I’m really happy and grateful to still have a community actively swapping ATCs. It makes my heart happy.
(And I hope it’s allowed to mention that I’m always up for personal swaps too!)
They’ve been “around” almost as long. ACEO stands for “Art Cards, Editions, and Originals,” and were basically started by people who wanted to sell ATCs instead of trading.
One from @Mountains_and_Clouds: this fine fellow is an ‘ō’ū, last seen in 1989 & presumed extinct; he took the interactive concept a little too far & tried to escape the card entirely, but I have glued him back on:
Oh Noooo now I’m wondering if my glue is holding up at all in the mail! (Also, I forget that it’s literally freezing in some places, so that might also affect normal paper glue and I should probably re-think what I’m using…)
Also, I just have to share that I had a super hard time finding the photo of that chicken card just now, even though I knew I took it!! Here’s my camera roll…
Lol… I haven’t had chickens in a couple years but my photos tend to get full of them pretty fast too. The model I used for that chicken card was one I had about 8 years ago when I lived in Oakland, CA. I love chickens!
