Orphan Block Projects- Pouch #2

Many years ago on the dead site, we had quite an active Quilt Block Swap group. The premise was that you made blocks requested by participants so that they could make a quilt.
I made quite a few quilts using those blocks, but I didn’t use them all.

For years, those poor orphan blocks sat in a bin. They were just too pretty to not be used, so last year, I decided I was going to find projects to use up those blocks. Some I will keep to continue to make more quilts to donate.

I successfully made a pouch earlier this year so I decided to do another. This is the wide open pouch by Noodlehead:

Here I am hand quilting it first. @sloth003 immediately recognized that it was one of the blocks she had made!

Close up of stitching (just a running stitch, kantha style):

I lined it with some stash fabric that was once going to be a skirt…

And, in case you are interested, here is the First orphan block pouch that I posted in the Quiltalong:

If anybody has any other suggestions for using up these blocks, please suggest away!

It’s fabulous!!! Love the kantha style stitching.

I made gift bags with some of my quiltalong blocks. I have a few more that I might do this with instead. Thanks for the inspiration! :sparkles:

The kantha really suits this block and it makes a lovely little pouch!

It seems like quilt blocks could be great as any form of bag or pouch. Like a dop kit-style, tote, book buddy/tablet cover, project bag, etc. I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Thanks! When you do scrappy, there are a lot of good choices for lining! Trying to use what I have in my stash!

It turned out lovely and I love the wide mouth. Ideas for others… placemats, pillow covers, or tote bags.
