It all started on a cold winter day. I came across a quilt block that just needed to be made. I made a raven, and with modifications, a red-winged blackbird appeared. I had no final product in mind; I just needed to create something.
Then I made a few more birds from simple block patterns and two more complex paper piecing blocks. I purchased the paper piecing patterns and simplified them a bit, but the others were simple HST, and abundant examples are available online.
My DW rearranged her boring, narrow, small office. It has one window that looks out on a forested bit of land, but is on the back side of a building and can be dark from late morning on. We raided the house for artwork to hang on the walls, but the tan and blank end wall needed something.
Ah, a bird quilt! Feathers, mushrooms, ferns, and leaves filled out the rest of the quilt, and to highlight the FPP blocks, small vignettes of the seasons finished it off. She hung it today!
Seriously one of the most gorgeous quilts I’ve ever seen! I absolutely adore birds and birdwatching. I like the background color you used for it. It all comes together so perfectly and its just beautiful. The pileated woodpecker is my favorite!
