Ok, so. These took a really long time to get this far, despite them looking all sloppy and chaotic!
I have this old pair of jeans that is so comfy, but they’ve just been becoming thread-bare and acquiring new holes for a while now. (My right front pocket has just had a giant hole in it for years at this point, because that’s often where I keep my keys…)
Recently, there have been some tears appearing in less “appropriate” areas, at least if I want to wear them in public without letting everyone know what my underwear looks like, so I decided I should try to patch some holes and make them a little more sturdy.
In hindsight, I might have been better off if I found some fabric to make some patches, at least in some spots, but I was stuck on wanting to weave/darn over the holes. So I just jumped in and started mixing these neon embroidery threads as much as possible. (Sorry guys, I really like neon. I don’t know why.)
And then I just carried on until they seemed sturdy enough for now. I added a few sashiko-inspired running stitches in a few spots that seemed like they could use a little reinforcement too.
They look wonderful and fun! So much better than plain jeans and a great salvage too.
I really want to do something similar with my favorite jeans…but the majority of the holes I get are in the crotch and inner thighs so festive embroidery feels less like an option and more like a cry for help.
Hahaha it’s funny because this is the only pair of pants I have that somehow doesn’t have the dreaded crotch holes! I’m still thinking upon how to fix my favorite (though not too sturdy, apparently) woven overalls I like to wear to the clay studio. I’ve sewed up the crotch seams so many times, but they keep tearing because apparently I squat too much or something!
If they aren’t meant to wear in public, you could maybe add some fabric in the crotch area?
@Tapestry I’ve done sort of invisible mending on the inner thighs of jeans, but that’s a short-term fix. I’ve yet to find a way to repair that area in a way that would last for a reasonable amount of time.
Your jeans look much better this way @Mountains_and_Clouds very fun and cheerful and I have no idea how you managed to make that right back pocket look this good. You’d never guess that part of the jeans was almost completely ripped open.
