I treated myself to a two hour paper workshop yesterday, it ended up taking a ridiculously long time to get there and back, but it was worth it for the tuition. I have no in progress photos, as there was only two hours and I was working like a demon. It is a traditional marbelling technique with inks floated on a carrageenan bath, and manipulated with combs as they float. These are some of my favourite ones
Amazing! I see your journal end pages for years to come!
I know right?! I plan to do some marbelling myself at home, but Iโve plenty to be going on with.
Nice! Are there any special techniques you learnt in class? I picked up a kit in the thrift store a while ago, but the instructions are extremely limited so I havenโt tried yet. Yours look very professional, an amazing result, especially for a first time.
All gorgeous! What a fun class!
Those are great! Such variety!
One of the big things was to use a piece of newspaper dragged across the surface every time, before you add ink.
Ink is fairly thin, and often the pigment settles a bit, so stir it before adding it to bath. We used horsehair bristle brush (bristles about 3cm long) held like a wand and tapped against the finger of the opposite hand to distribute the ink.
Always use black first, as it makes the other colours pop. They told us to limit to 4 layers, Inc black, as more gets more difficult. Each colour is a layer.
Hold the page by diagonal corners and start by laying down the first corner and then kinda roll the rest of the paper onto the surface, excluding air. You then immediately lift up a an edge and drag it across the edge of the bath to finish.

Wow, these papers are all absolutely gorgeous!!
Dang! These look so high end! (on brand for you) The first one reminds me of one of the endpapers I chose when I had a book artist make TheMisterTโs books into hardbound versions - and it was expensive paper.
These are beautiful! I love the classic and classy look of traditional marbled paper.
Thank you hand marbeled paid are outrageously expensive. A3 sheets in a shop in Barcelona were well over 100$
Beautiful!
WOW! This was a few years ago and I am sure not $100 for the sheet, because I think it was around or even less than that to have the book made. The artist was excited to get to buy gorgeous paper, tho!
