Paper, Mixed Media, Art Journaling Craftalong 2025

Journal page made by cutting painted papers into flowers and glueing to a background

That’s an interesting technique to try! Did you do the line work after the gluing part or did you draw flowers and cut them out? Turned out pretty…the warm colors against the cool background is a nice contrast!

I drew them then cut out. But added the white accents after glueing down as I couldn’t help myself

The white accents really make it pop

I found this great tutorial today for a phenology wheel, it’s new to me and they look really great. I’ve drawn one up and am committing to at least doing January (took a photo but wasn’t able to actually do today, so it’ll be two tomorrow) @jemimah I thought I’d you when I saw this. The compass I have maxed out on wheel of about 24cm in diameter which might be a little small, hopefully it’ll be ok.

EDIT: a day later, I think I’ll draw a fresh one, she uses a cheap compass which stretches a lot more than a slightly better one, but that gives an extra 2cm for each wedge, which is significant.

I also came across this tutorial for cute little vintage type boxes from toilet paper rolls. It’s in french, but pretty easy to follow along.

This phenology wheel thing is so lovely! I’ve never heard of it. Well, I sampled and added the vid to my Watch Later list. One more new project to add to the bazillion that are waiting. TFS!

This is my second go at creating the phenogram, starting from yesterday (I took a photo) I’ve committed to doing at least January. My theme is things silhouetted against the sky. My intention is to learn more and improve at watercolours.

One thing I’ve already learned is to clean my desk properly before I start, especially if I’ve just been using oil paints, and to use a clean piece of paper under my hand!

I love TP roll crafting! Off to retrieve some out of our recycle bin!

I love what you made so far…I thought the blue parts were cut from magazines until you showed the close-up…nice job!

that looks fun!

It reminds me a bit of the embroidery journals I’ve seen posted on reddit

I’ve seen those and am amazed how much is squeezed into each section!

I had to liberate a toilet roll  because the recycling was picked up yesterday.

It’s a neat little project, quick and satisfying. I think I cut the flap too small, but it still works.

@geekgirl that embroidery journal is amazing :star_struck:

I really like the barbed-wire fence against the sky. Nice theme and good start!

Here’s one in UK English from Bohemian Crafting. I’ve saved to my Watch Later.

Lovely as it is. I like your text stamp and Baker’s twine.

I love this artist on YouTube. She does a great job combining realism along with abstract and uses lots of mixed media techniques to make her art pieces.

I completed the 10 day Collage Joy course! I wasn’t impressed at first, but then, I learned a few very basic things about contrast and using limited colors that really was like a light bulb in my head!

I didn’t do the lessons everyday, instead, I just really watched and listened. I did make some notes in my art notebook that I know I will use. I plan on doing the lessons soon but also, going to use up some papers I already have…they make sense to me now!

Her full course is a bit pricey and I truly don’t have the time to submerse myself in a full course right now, but I am considering one of her shorter courses.

I did all but one of the papers, but then I burned out…

The only one I want to do is the bubble one. Most of the others I have done before from YouTube tutorials or from this thread…
