Paper, Mixed Media, Art Journaling Craftalong 2025

I will buy some pastels after I use up my supplies of collage papers and dip pen nibs.

You will never in many lifetimes use your supply of dip pen nibs.

@photojenn get the pastels, given the loose drawing you posted on the snapshot thread and that you really liked the vibe, you would love pastels. Don’t buy a huge set, just a cheap small set, then you won’t feel guilty if you don’t love them

Done

Ok not the cheapest but I went with a good mid-range set (both price and firmness) that doesn’t use any heavy metals in their formulations.

Is it okay if I change the subject? Not that I didn’t just purchase a few of the new Dina Wakley items released today….but I did work 2 weeks in January….

I joined ShanoukiArt’s Full Deck Card Challenge but I don’t always follow prompts, guidelines, etc. So I’ve made a few.

Ooo I love these!

And over on IG, Megan Quinlan asked if you work in one journal at a time or several. I have a few.

I found a book about how to make house-shaped books, which I gave to my bestie, but I copied the template before gifting. This will be a vintage-y theme.

I made this one to go with me on my trip last Aug/Sept to the UK but I didn’t use it. The cover is a file folder. I even prepped the interior but didn’t crack it open during the trip.

These 2 books have been around for a few years, I still add bits when I find something interesting.

This is an altered book - I found the wallpaper at the creative reuse store and used it for the cover.

It is a junk/art journal.

And this is a Sizzix XL die, a passport sized book.

There are more, including the one I bought today, but I’ll save them for later. Thanks for looking.

Oooh! I love everything. Your work is always so inspiring.

What kind of paper can I use to download and print free designs offered by various artists? The goal is to use the papers in collage, journals, etc. but I also want to paint/ink on them? The colors aren’t that critical as they will be background. I have an inkjet printer but I can use a laser printer at work as well, but would rather not.

Suggestions?

I use index card paper. it’s on the thicker side but it prints nice and I can do mixed media on it without it falling apart.

@megwell I saw this on Facebook and thought of you. This woman cuts letters out of all her packaging and junk mail and sorts by letter.

I have a container of words but never can find what I want. I may try this

Edit - ok maybe not at $50
here’s a 90lb for a more reasonable price

Brilliant! No more hunting for printed words at the last minute AND a way to use junk mail!

I probably even have a spare container like that I can use

I am going to try the index paper.

I only have a laser printer so I can only speak to that. I’ve printed images onto regular color laser paper (hammermill) and it worked well, no tearing, etc. I’ve also printed some scans of my art onto wet strength tissue paper to use as semi-transparent collage and that worked really well too.
