I just got a set of Amsterdam primary colors to play with to make ALL the colors…lol…Once my niece’s wedding is over this weekend and my sister goes home, I will have a chance to play…I have had such great ideas but no energy or mojo

I just found water pens, of all places, at Dollar Tree! Low quality, I’m sure, but first time user so I’m happy trying them out.

I’ve never enjoyed water brushes either. I think it’s because I’m not really sure what to do with them
I was using it with this little water soluble graphite tin I got and it was fun to play around with. I know you can also use them for watercolor, or any water soluble media, but given the choice I’d always use a regular brush and jar of water for watercolor because I have way more control.
You could probably use a brush and jar of water with the water soluble graphite too, this was just really convenient to play with when I was feeling extra unmotivated. I actually think the water soluble graphite, water brush, small sketchbook, and a pencil would make a great travel art kit.

That’s a very neat tin! I feel that the watercolour brushes should be good with a little travel watercolour palette, but I don’t really like the bristles and the water is uncontrolled. But then they are cheap ones, so that’s probably why
I’ve definitely hated every water brush I’ve tried before I got this one for that exact reason, there was either no water or blobs of water coming out the sides. I was very surprised by how well the Caran d’Ache brush worked.
Same. But I dug out an old one I’ve had for years, and used it to wash parts of a drawing I did with a fountain pen, when I was at the gardens a few days ago (the koi carp sketch on the right). It was fun and very portable.
When I was heading out to the gardens, I challenged myself to take a small selection of old supplies that I never use. I don’t think a water brush will ever be my main go-to, but I think it will be great for plein air with watercolour pencils and water soluble inks, etc.

Was a losing battle before you made the resolution.
I was doing that on YT, clogging my Watch Later list with so many tutes. I felt compelled to watch all day so couldn’t get past them to get other stuff done. I’ve trained myself to keep that list at a bare minimum now. I save most vids to my Playlists instead for if I ever get to them in this life.
Really? $600+? I haven’t signed up for any paid classes. I do so much creatively that I just wouldn’t be able to take full advantage of them to get my money’s worth. I do often donate for YT vids when the channel offers it. I joined Craftsy during one of their introductions but didn’t renew the next year because there wasn’t enough variety in classes.
I buy student grade and even child grade if it will suite my project. Cheap enough to just toss if it’s not good enough. I like finding crafting and arting surprises to buy at dollar stores and unexpected retailers. I’ve ordered several times from Aliexpress and twice from Temu. Have been happy with my purchases. Sometimes I do splurge for name brand, like when I bought a set of Faber-Castell 15 Gelatos. I got the Brights.

It’s true Although I am being far more selective with what I’m buying now that I have a sense for the kinds of supplies and techniques I actually enjoy using/doing vs those I like the look of. I spent the better part of the last few years trying ALL the things and taking ALL of the classes. Having no previous basis for art, I had no idea what I actually liked so it was the only way I knew to figure it out.
I did get a few copics and learn that while I love the idea of markers, they just don’t make sense for how I like to work. I’ll keep the small selection of alcohol, paint, and waterbased markers I do have, because I like to look at them, but don’t expect to buy more. I’ll also keep my collection of stamps, stencils, gelli plates, and collage paper but I don’t expect to really use them going forward.
Right now I’m trying really hard to not buy some soft pastels, which based on what I’ve figured out about my art style/preferences, I think I would love. Maybe I’ll set some sort of art goal for myself and get some once I achieve it. Or maybe I’ll have a bad day and order myself some new art supplies to feel better, who knows
