Pattern Interpretation Assistance

I started working on this hat pattern and finally got past the initial ribbing, but now I’m a bit confused.

So for round 2 it says to knit and knits and purl any purls, which makes sense, but what am I supposed to do with the yarn overs from the previous row? Do they count at knits?

Thanks in advance!

I’d skip over them. Do you have a picture of the finished hat? Also check raverly to see if anyone else has made the project and has notes on what they did with the yo.

I agree with @photojenn . I would skip over them, as it looks like you are doing some kind of pattern with a whole in it. But also see if anyone else has made the projects and has any notes for what they did.

can you show a picture of at least part of Chart 1? also if there is a key to the symbols on the chart it would help to see that as well

I’m confused bec you are knitting in the round, but when I’ve seen instructions like this, it’s usually worked flat.

I went through the comments on Ravelry and there were a few people who were also having issues, though they ran into them further into the pattern than I did. But general consensus was that the chart was better than the written directions. So I think I need to either figure out how to read a chart or pick a different pattern for this yarn. At the time I was on a trip and hadn’t printed out the chart and didn’t have the pattern on my phone. But now that I’m home I can take a better look at it.

Did you figure it out? Since the YO are in a group with knits, I would knit them in the even rows…your first instinct seemed correct. Looks like it is going to be a great looking hat!

Honestly I haven’t really looked at it much since getting back from our trip. I launched into Christmas present making mode when we got home.
