Pegasus Pinafore Dress

When I was a kid, my mother made me a dress and pinafore set and it always made me feel like a princess to wear it. I was more than a bit of a tomboy and went through a long phase of refusing to wear dresses. To be fair, they’re not the most practical attire for riding horses or catching frogs and bugs. Anyway, I saw this pinafore dress pattern on Etsy and knew I wanted (at least) one. There’s also an option for ruffles on the straps - so pretty, but maybe next time.

The pattern is called the Pegasus Pinafore Dress. The fabric is a 50/50 cotton and linen blend by Robert Kaufman. The warp and weft are different colors, turquoise and navy blue, so the color has a nice depth to it. I used the sizing chart in the pattern, but needed to remove about six inches of elastic in the back once I tried it on. I would definitely size down the next go around.

ETA: I also added six inches to the length of the skirt because I prefer midi-length to just below the knee, and I had the fabric to do it.

And, I realized last night that if I paired it with the blouse I just made, it looks a lot like Belle’s blue dress in Beauty and the Beast. :joy: I really need to make a hair bow from the fabric scraps and a white petticoat. She always was my favorite Disney princess.

Turned out lovely! I like that you are choosing nice fabrics that will wash and wear well and make your wardrobe timeless! This would look lovely with a print top as well since the color is so versatile! Will you be using this pattern again? I think it would be great in a plaid or print as well.

I am mad at myself for throwing out my most favorite pinafore style jumper from the 1970’s. It was a Betsy Johnson pattern that looked similar to your pattern.Who knew that dresses would actually be more comfortable than some pants!?

Thank you, ladies!

I probably will make another one at some point. I do tend to shy away from using prints since that does cut down on the versatility of the garment, and also makes cutting the fabric a bit trickier. That being said, my next few garments will probably be florals and plaids.

Skirts and dresses - with elastic waistbands - have become the mainstays of my wardrobe at this point. Like @Bunny1kenobi said, they’re like crotchless yoga pants. I always feel feminine and put-together in a skirt/dress, it’s so simple to put an outfit together, and, yeah, soooo comfortable.

I rarely go anywhere I need to dress up for, so comfy and casual (and easily laundered) is my main goal! Flouncing about the house like a storybook princess whilst doing the dishes and laundry certainly has it’s charms, though.

Flouncing… what a perfect word! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Princesses just ARE… we don’t need to be fancy! :winking_face_with_tongue: Right, ladies?

This looks so charming and kind of sweet, even. I bet that Kaufmann fabric is lovely in person!

This dress looks so comfy that you could catch frogs and chase bugs in it. Best of both worlds, comfy and pretty!

It looks so lovely, that fabric, and the execution! Well done! (I’m a sucker for a pinafore, too!)

Thank you! It’s a good thing that y’all can’t see what I did to the waistband when I had to un-pick a few seams and re-do the elastic. :joy:
