PREP Tart IYKYK

Yeah, it’s a new plushie. It is about 4” long. Intended to be a bag charm. Yeah. There are others in the world. Yeah. I am taking suggestions.

I don’t know, so I don’t know. But this is adorable with the Izod logo.

Back in the dark ages, the cool, rich kids who wore Izod, were called preppies. Prolly cause they all went to prep school. I only added the IYKYK to the title because prep tart wasn’t long enough and I couldn’t think of anything better.

I’m confused but it’s cute. Lol. My first thought was PREP like the HIV vaccine? Then I saw your comment about it being based off the preppy kids. So the preppy kids were wearing those Croc polo shirts? Is that what you mean? Lol do you have other clique pop tarts?

Izod Lacoste (crocodile logo) and Polo (polo player on a horse) were considered status symbol shirts. And, that green plus pink were the “it” colors. Yeah, the preppies were the richer kids or the more conservative kids. In my day, the other group were the heads… :cigarette:

Love your Prep Tart! ha ha Fun play on words!

Gack, am I old!!! Yes. The preppies wore Izod alligator shirts back in the seventies. They also wore things like pink and green plaid if I remember right. I have a regular one designed and a pop TART with a kissy face…. Tart being an old fashioned word for hussie which is an old fashioned word for..

. Well I don’t know anymore.

I hadn’t thought about cliques. I might be able to pull off a nerd, but I don’t have a good pun for that.

In the seventies? I thought you meant in the early 2000s cuz everything you listed was what they were wearing then. :open_mouth: I thought they were “Croc” brand but I looked it up and they were always IZOD. I guess the preps are gonna prep. Lol.

The crocodile belongs to Lacoste. Izod now has it’s own logo and is more affordable than Lacoste.
Lacoste polos run from about $70-$200 dollars. You can get an Izod polo for $20. IZ is their logo.

What goes around, comes around…. Or perhaps old money knows what lasts….

Clearly I am not, and never was, a preppie. Did I imagine Izod - Lacoste stores branded together?

Lol I didn’t get that it was a play on words until @AIMR pointed it out. :person_facepalming: Omg. I’m clueless. I was never a prep either. I was a goth. Lol

Yes, for a while they did. I think there was some sort of problem when the manufacturing came over to the USA. Lacoste did not like the quality so they split. Not sure, I just remember it was a big deal.

I wasn’t a preppie either. I was a hippie. To this day, I am not a fan of pink and green together or plaid. Clearly, I have issues… :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Great pun! And very cute! I can definitely see some in the bag charm crowd loving this.

I was a teen in the 80s and this was the look then for this group, too. Instead of “preppies” we called these kids “soc-es” pronounced “soashes” which was for some reason derived from “social.” Maybe in post-rural/proto-suburban Oregon at that time the notion of a prep school was so far out of our context? Maybe also because the Preppie Handbook came out just before my cohort hit puberty, so we felt like we had to rename it to make it our own?

Love this!
I was a wannabe preppie (never had the money or the self-confidence/ style to pull it off).
Thanks for the smile

Oh man! I remember being so envious of the kids who could afford those shirts! I got one in a bag of hand me downs once, and was so excited. I even briefly tried to rock a “feathered” bangs hairstyle, but with my curly hair, it didn’t work out too well. I was cool for about 5 minutes
