Questions about drawing

Over the past few months I’ve gotten back into drawing after not doing it for about 27 or so years. I’ve been doing photography for the past 20 plus years, but that went on the back burner the past few years. After a bunch of stuff happened last year I just said screw it and started to draw again.

I always loved the crazy black and white drawings and started doing them. I would like some advice though. I don’t mind using sharpies and such, but was wondering what drawing utensils people here would recommend. I’ve been hesitating posting here, but I figured it was time to ask as I start to do this more.

I guess I should post some random examples which would give people here a better idea of what I mean. I apologize if I’m somehow doing something wrong with my post. I’m still kinda new here. Also I’m posting one photo I took this winter. Again I apologize.

Drawing is such a fun thing to do! I especially like your geometric drawings, very cool!

I think it can be a good idea to experiment with different drawing tools and try different things, you never know what might click with you. Some of my favourite drawing tools for black and white drawings are Sakura Pigma Micron fineliners, or black ink and a dip pen, or charcoal can be lots of fun too.

Also, your snow photo is fantastic!

I do have some of the Micron’s and I do love them. I’ve been using them and those Sharpie pens.
I’ve found the Microns smear a bit more when using rulers, but I think it’s more me then the pens.
I’d be willing to try the dip pen, but I’ve used a fountain pen and even though I like it… omg it smears so much.

Do the dip pens do the same or is that more the ink that I’m using in it?

Also I’m glad ya like the snow shot. I got a few decent ones this year that I’m happy with after not doing em for years. My best show though is a frog eating a bird, but I know that’s not up everyone’s alley.

I don’t have advice for you, but I wanted to say your work is wonderful (drawings and photography) and I hope you will share more of it!

I used to use sharpies but I find I like Micron pens more satisfying. I also use white Gelly Roll pens, also by Sakura. I recently got a Permapaque marker also by them. It’s duo tipped, but I haven’t had a chance to play around with it yet. I bought it for bigger projects.

Love the drawing! You could even go the route of black paper with a white pen.

Your drawings are really cool! I love the perspective play!
I think whatever drawing implement you enjoy the most (and frustrates you the last) is the best choice, and it’s different for everyone. It also might be different, depending on what surface you are drawing on. There are so many different kinds of paper (and other things)!

That being said, I personally prefer using acid-free supplies whenever I can. (Most sharpies are not, but I believe there are some more “archival” versions that are acid-free.) I agree that Micron pens are great for line work; I also like using india ink with a dip pen.

Now I’m inspired to go start drawing a bit more!

Thank you everyone I appreciate the help.

@geekgirl I was actually looking at their multi packs of the pens they got. I might pick some up in a few weeks when I go to visit my family. There’s a store down the road from them and they always bring me.

@gozer my buddy keeps telling me to do that. He thinks it would look good for my geometry stuff.

@Mountains_and_Clouds are acid free pens more expensive or should I just wait and see what I find at the art stores by my sisters?

Again thank you for the help.
