Quilt-along 2021

Thank you!

I just got it pinned earlier this week and I’m really hoping to start quilting this weekend.

I really don’t know how you free motion quilters do it! I had a heck of a time just putting simple borders on my quilt. I can’t imagine trying to wrangle the whole quilt through my machine for quilting (actually, I can imagine it, but it’s not a pretty picture, so I simply choose not to imagine it ).

I love your take on the prompt!

I use quilt clips to keep the portion of the quilt that’s under my machine arm all rolled up. They’re round with a slit in them… they slide around so I lined the inside with hot glue to give it some grip. Then, I just stitch it in quadrants. It’s clumsy and slow-going near the center, easier towards the edges. 🤷 When I started quilting, it never even occurred to me that you could pay someone else to do the quilting portion. :joy:

-I MistressJennie submit this as my September BOM entry. A whole bunch of Halloween Economy blocks! These are each 6" blocks, mostly because that was a good size to fussy cut the skulls, cameos, and other images to. So I’ll probably group them together to make 12" blocks to fit with my other premade Halloween blocks.

As per @AudiobookLover’s request, here are the other blocks that have been made/gathered for my eventual Halloween quilt.

OOO, I am jealous. What fun colors, fussy cuts, and fabrics. Yummy, candy corn yummy.

Those purple blocks are my favorite, but they all work so well together! I’m looking forward to seeing the completed quilt. Do you have any pics of all the completed blocks together?

Beautifully done! I love the fussy cut witches!

I just edited my post above, so you can see the other blocks I’ve made, and received from friends.

I finished my quilt top!

I’m a little annoyed with the segments with 7 small arrows. Even though I was using a 1/4” seam allowance, they each ended up with a small gap compared to the rest of each quadrant, but everything else about the 4 giant blocks matched up perfectly. :woman_shrugging:

Piecing the 4 quadrants around the center block was a bit of a brain teaser at first, but wasn’t actually all that hard once you wrap your head around it. Now to trim, sandwich, and quilt.

Such interesting colors and a fluid pattern! What is the white you are using? I love how it looks like it has a bit of texture…

I don’t remember the name/maker of the white fabric, but the quilt shop had it in a wide range of colors. It’s a hatch pattern of white printed on white. But a warm white, rather than a cool one. I have some left. I’ll see if it has anything printed on the selvage.

I bought a bunch of fat quarters that had a similar look, but there was no light colors…I like to have a collection of whites on hand…thanks…

Beautiful!!

@MistressJennie, beautiful quilt top. And those annoying small arrows will disappear when you quilt…at least they will be minimized. I can’t wait to see it finished.

@MistressJennie, you managed to pull this together so quickly! It came out beautifully!

@AIMR, the fabric looks like Moda’s Thatched line by Robin Pickens.

The arrows themselves came out fine. But when they were then pieced together into a row of 7, the overall size of the row was 1/3" shorter than the rest of the panels in the same quadrant. And it happened on all 4 quadrant panels equally. The back edge of the small arrow rows is actually supposed to be the raw edge of the quilt, so I suppose if I look at it in a ‘glass half full’ way, it’s more like the rest of the panels in the quadrant are too long. Really I just have to trim the other panels to get everything square. The OCD part of me is just annoyed that they came out wrong, while everything else came out exactly as described. LOL
