Quiltalong - 2022

Personally I’m a big fan of white sashing, I feel that it gives the eyes somewhere to rest when you’ve a lot going on with prints and colours.

With such vibrant colours you could try something like this https://pin.it/1iJLFJ2

I love that last one especially!!

Thanks for the ideas! I really like some of the rainbow quilts and have bunch of rainbow colored fat quarters I could use to make another quilt.

I think for this one I’m going to go with scrappy random in an all over pattern since that’s what I’ve had in mind since I signed up for the swap. The more I stared at the second picture the more it just felt like that’s what they wanted to be so I’m going to go with it :). And I’ll do white or maybe a slightly off white for the border.

I’m thinking for sewing to do the short rows, since that’s how I stacked them when I put them away, unless there is a benefit to doing the long rows first. I think I remember from years ago that if you press the seams on one row going one direction and the next row in the opposite that it will help the corners to line up.

Ironing technique. She is the literal best, I love her.

That was super helpful, thank you! I also found a 1/4” foot in with the feet that came with my machine so hoping that will help with my tendency to get sloppy and speed sew.

This won’t work for those mini charm squares but is a real stash buster. I love how the pattern makes sense out of all those multi-hued squares.

I recently mentioned that I’m out of state visiting my family. Well, I’m super excited because they’re not too far away from “Quilt Town, USA!” It is the home of Missouri Star Quilt Company and features a Main Street filled with twelve different themed quilt shops!

My mom, LittleBookLover, and I just arrived at our hotel room a little bit ago and I’m really looking forward to heading into town and checking out the shops tomorrow!

Picked up a book from the thrift store in the town near our campsite Scrap Quilt Sensation by Katharine Guerrier. It really is fabulous, a few incredible star block quilts for you celestial gals.

And OMG this one, Sampler Quilt. Wow!

This Jacob’s ladder is my fave though. I can make it from stash too, because it’s based on light & dark values rather than repeating fabrics.

Thanks for showing pictures of the inside of that book! It’s only my wishlist, it’s good to see it’s indeed as awesome as it looked like online.

I was working on my July block last night and started sewing together the final blocks…wrong! So I turned off the machine and called my mom for a nice long chat. Sometimes you just shouldn’t be near a sewing machine!

Lol…at least I know I’m not alone. It’s going to be awesome when it’s done!

The top corner square was the only one sewn on correctly…and that’s the one I decided to seam rip first. I really needed my call to mom then. I’m not sure I like the red dot anyway, maybe a darker magenta.

Managed to finish cutting my Cups & Saucers Block while Ada napped this afternoon. I spent wayyyy too long fussy cutting the center square, only to realize later that I cut it going the wrong way, and it should have been on the diagonal, rather than centered. Fortunately it was much easier to cut a second time around with some disappearing marking pens and the first square as a template. Hope to get it pieced tomorrow.

I’ve put my mom’s lap quilt on hold…it’s summer and so many gardening and house projects and trips and such.

But it’s a good thing, she wants it longer, but no wider than the one she has (and doesn’t like), but I lost the dimensions. She called last night with the size 36" wide. I’m at 34" right now so I think I can fudge out with the binding close to that. She is so funny, it must be exact, but 35 or 36 is ok.

D’oh! I was right about the fussy cut square the first time!

Good thing I still have the first one I cut, and I have some extra 2.5” squares in black to snowball the corners. So close…
