Quiltalong - 2025

I have found my next big project! The other day, I was browsing the Alison Glass website when I came across her Cozy Workshop. I was instantly intrigued by the name (cozy? I love cozy!) and as I looked into it, I was even more intrigued by the project.

As the name implies, it is a quilt, but it’s different from any quilt I’ve ever made. Like most quilts, it’s made up of three layers but those layers consist of 100% cotton jersey knit for the front & back and quilting cotton (either pieced or whole cloth) for the middle. You baste all three layers together, then stencil designs onto the front of the quilt. You use Perle cotton to stitch a running stitch around the stenciled design, then you cut the top layer of jersey knit to reveal the quilting cotton underneath. I know reverse applique has been around forever, but I’ve never seen it done quite like this.

Here’s an example from the workshop pdf, along with a few closeups:

The best part is that I discovered this on Friday and when I went to add supplies to my cart on Sunday, almost everything on the website had gone on sale! And to make things even better, I got a rainbow fabric bundle to piece my middle layer for 25% off (I thought it would only be 15% off).

I felt like this type of quilt would be right up my mom’s alley, so I told her all about it today and she’s going to be making one too. The jersey knit on the Alison Glass site is a bit expensive, so we ordered her a less expensive alternative that is still 100% cotton jersey, but it’s an 8oz weight instead of the 7.4oz weight that’s being offered on the AG website. When we went to check out and order her jersey knit, we found out that the website was having a 60% off flash sale, so the fabric came out to $3.58/yard. It was so inexpensive that she ended up ordering a second color and I also ordered some to make a second quilt as well. I checked on the company before placing the order ($14.32 for 4 yards seems to good to be true - especially since that’s less than a single yard on the AG site - and I found some mixed reviews, so we’re hoping that it comes in just as ordered and is decent quality :crossed_fingers:). Oh, and when I was trying to decide if I would use pieced or whole cloth fabric for my middle, I came across a great fabric for a whole cloth middle. My mom loved that fabric option, so that’s what she’s going with and best of all, it happened to be on sale as well! I feel like everything is already coming together so nicely and we haven’t even started yet (knock on wood that everything continues smoothly ).
