I have another machine that I have never used. It’s older but in great condition. It’s a Brother Innov-is QC-1000. To be honest, it scares me. I have only used low shanks, and it looks like I could sew my finger!
Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Make a quilt project using at least 50% scraps
I atarted quilting before my machine died, and now i am picking out where it was going to pucker. Then i will be able to sew again.
Have you been able to give your other machine a try?
I did! It is not as scary as I thought. It’s so computerized. I just want to sew, ya know? It is a great machine, but I am not sure if I can sew other things on it. I’m scared of messing it up with thicker fabrics and all that.
In my absolute panic, I bought another Singer (I know, I know, but I have all the stuff for a Singer). Once it came in, I decided I would send it back and just tough it out with the Brother machine. When I went to send it back, they said they would refund me $72 off the total if I wanted to keep it. A new machine for $72 cheaper than I planned on spending? Yes please! So, now I have two machines. Ha! I’d better get sewing. I was rushing, trying to make the old machine work enough to get some panels done, and now I am picking those stitches out. I plan to get back to work on my jacket soon, but I have a swap I need to complete first, then take care of my mom after surgery, and finally, vacation. The end of the year is always so busy!
@LittleCogs I preordered a layer cake of the Hello Alice fabric. I have a couple of ideas on what to make, but nothing concrete yet. It keeps changing in my head. Knowing my track record, it won’t made for another 2 years anyway. Ha! I can’t wait to be inspired by what you create!!!
Wow, $72 off for keeping it? What a deal! It sounds like you are going to be quite busy, don’t forget to make time to take care of yourself! I am so looking forward to seeing your jacket!
Today’s Quiltalong Bingo prompt:
Was announced on Monday, because apparently I still have my Bingo alarm set up to go off on Mondays and Wednesdays. I have updated my alarms and will call the next prompt next Wednesday.
How’s everyone’s bingo cards looking?
I would have a few BINGOs if I would just do the prompts! ![]()
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been having machine woes, Gozer. Hopefully you are cooking with gas now, and enjoying making.
I need to check back through the bingo prompts to catch up.
I’ve been too busy with work and family support to sew recently, but I spent time last weekend basting and quilting a Cheshire Cat lap quilt for my friend. I’m sewing the binding on now.
And I’ve had a couple of days of annual leave, so I’m doing a project from Jo Avery’s book, Journey to the Centre of a Quilter. It is improv New York Beauty blocks, using a foundation piecing method, but with interfacing instead of paper as the foundation.
This is my mini quilt plan, it’ll be about 20” square:
It’s my first time learning foundation piecing and first time sewing curved seams in blocks.
I’ve got the top left quadrant finished:
And today I’m going to work on the next three quadrants simultaneously.
(sorry for all the edits, I can’t work out how to do line breaks after photos. I’m a tired bean.)
WOw! That curve looks amazing! I would have no idea where to even start with that. It looks great! Hooray for a new trick up your sleeve!
Also, my sister would love that quilt. She loves Alice in Wonderland. Thank you so much for showing me the Ruby Star Hello Alice fabric. My wallet isn’t happy, but I am! ![]()
It looks awesome!
Thank you! It is a foundation technique, but with sew in interfacing that you leave in the project.
This is the start of it, the black fabric is the background and the purple is the spike for this arc. You stitch and flip your way along the zigzag, alternating colours. It took a lot of figuring out because I’m aphantasic, so I can’t picture things in my head, meaning that very visual tasks are hard at times. But I’m proud of the outcome. That looks harder than I imagined. Now I am even more impressed!
I have no idea what kind of quilting magic you did but the end result looks amazing!
Thank you ![]()
This is the other three spike arcs:
The one on the left has been trimmed to size, but the middle and right ones still need trimming. I put the middle one on the fabric that’s going inside the curve.
I took some photos so you can see the backs:
That’s awesome!
They look so complex…I still can’t wrap my head around how you are doing them, but they sure look interesting and fun!

Submit your goal list
My goal list.
1. Finish the teal WIP
2. Make a baby quilt for Kate
3 do just one Elizabeth Hartman square
Its been a tough week, So tomorrow I think I’ll just sew, go back to something mindful/mindless. I have all the blocks trimmed and laid out for my teal quilt, so it will be a good one to work on tomorrow.
Thanks @AudiobookLover for this quiltalong and bingo, I really appreciate the work you do on this, for me it brings me back to my machine when I get too busy doing other stuff.
