What a frustrating project, but at least it came with a lovely outcome! For what it’s worth, I had to search to find the identical blocks.
Me too. You know they’re there @Edel so if you’re bothered by them, rip them out, but I had to spend a few minutes to spot them. I wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t know.
If you’re taking votes I also can’t find it easily, so depending on where you plan for to to live (somewhere you’ll see it all the time vs giving away to a good home) you could leave it. Unless it will haunt you- life’s too short for that $@!?.
I’m thinking I will take them out and replace. To make it test, I’ll just take out two of the central coloured squares, and leave the corners, even if they are the same. I think visually that will work. I’m not decided yet on what I’m going to do with this one. I might keep it, in which case it will annoy me.
Ok I’ve changed my mind, I found even more that are too close together, so I’m calling it a design choice!
I think that is a good choice. Once you start overthinking it, it can drive you mad! I do admire people who can precisely layout their blocks with no two colors in the same area or fifteen zillion fabrics, no two alike, etc.
I think the quilt is lovely as is and again, looks like strings of beads. I printed out the pattern and want to make one. As long as it looks like beads, for me, that is the goal.
@MistressJennie @MistressJennie that basket is seriously delightful! The colours are perfect and the texture of the quilting is wonderful.
And @Edel the magic lanterns flimsy is wonderful. I love the way the diamonds flow across the quilt.
Thank you all for the advice on the colour wheel quilt. I spent some time remaking the purple and yellow squares, then applique-ing them in place before I re-did the quilting in those areas. I’m pleased with the fix.
I originally wanted to make a key for the back explaining the hand stitching, because each colour of lines is a different colour scheme type. But I’m so tired and I want to do something nice this evening so I’m going to hand stitch the binding down, then I can always slip stitch the key on later. And I’m putting this in a new post so I can find it easier:
My Quiltalong Goals for Q4

My bingo cards:
Your color wheel quilt turned out very interesting! I would definitely need a key to know what all the stitching meant.
Thanks for sharing the video! Cheered me up
I, AIMR, submit these two quilted pouches as a small personal finish.
I keep finding random orphan blocks as I attempt to clean up and clear out the last of our moving boxes in the garage and basement.
Hand quilting the first one probably took way longer than I thought, but I was binging a tv show so didn’t really notice. I decided to machine quilt the second one just to get it done.
They are both lined with fabric from my stash (and yes, I keep finding more fabric in those boxes!). I also hand embroidered around the edges. They are closed with a simple snap.
I plan to give the second one to a friend and use the first one to hold my phone and sunglasses. I got tired of digging around my purse for them each time I get in my car.
These are gorgeous, I’m loving all the Boro stitching you’re doing x
Did you ever finish your hand embroidered pieces? I am about to start mine loosely using the tutorial of one of my favorite YouTubers. I find stitching over fabric much more relaxing than cross stitch and embroidery.
I am also planning to make totes out of this very old, damaged and poorly made quilt that was started by a friend’s mother. No one in the family wants it as it is. It appears to have been made out of all sorts of fabric, clothing, scraps, flannel, shirts, etc. The only thing I can think to do with it is to make tote bags for her and her sisters. The fabrics I can save are cool and very vintage (1940’s?). But it really is an ugly quilt, so some decorative stitching will probably be necessary.
What a great idea to preserve the quilt in a way that they can use and appreciate!
Today’s Bingo prompt is:
Sew together a row of quilt blocks
That quilt has potential to be a great tote @aimr. I feel like you could make it into something special.
I finally did it. I plugged in the new machine and started working on my coat again. I forgot how big of a project this is. I am having to learn the new machine. The entire feel is different.
That will make great totes with some of your fabulous stitching on top
And no I haven’t finished my pouch yet, I’ve been too scattered with my crafting at the moment. But I’ve just dropped DH off to the airport, he’s heading on a two week transatlantic cruise, Southampton-NY and back. He’ll be incommunicado for two weeks, which will be interesting, and Mollie is in a stage show starting next week, so I’ll be by myself every evening, so in theory I’ll get loads done.
Sweet! Great bingo call on Wednesday. I’ve been sewing rows of blocks together all week! I thought I’d have this quilt top done last weekend but the border is killing me lol. I keep “assuming" and don’thave a design wall up to help visualize what I’m doing. (Thought it was simple so didn’t draft on paper)Thought I knew.. sewed pieces. Realized I was wrong. Sewed those useless pieces together for part of the backing. Bought more fabric to redo the border… discovered that plan only worked for 2 sides. Now I have to get more fabric (scrappy needs variety) and make a few more pieces before I can finish last 2 sides … also just realized in typing this out that the piece I planned as part of the backing is going to be too short with the extra bits on the side.
But! Top is almost done haha.
