Quiltalong - 2025

What a nice project! It will be nice to see a pile of finished items made just with scraps!

I know one of my goals is always to use up some scraps. I am convinced that the more I touch the bin, the more they multiply!

I have some scrappy trees and tiny quarter holders…but nothing in quantity like you have made! I might make some of those pen holders as well.

I’m seeing a lot of Jolly Bar precuts on sale right now (5” x 10” rectangles) . Has anyone ever made a quilt using precuts in that size? It seems like a bit of an odd size for most quilt blocks.

If you look at Pinterest, there are lots of patterns using that size. I made one a long time ago but cut my own rectangles. I don’t think they made that size back then. Here is one I like a lot!

I’ve made two quilts using rectangles, though they were smaller. My colorwash quilt and a ‘brick path’ quilt.

I like that design @AIMR it would be perfect for a precut bundle, showing off all the different fabrics.

@tendstowardschaos those are stunning, especially the last one! It must have been a challenge to lay out the colours in exactly the right order.

I now want to make another one!

Thanks! The first quilt is the back of the one in the third picture. I just used a design wall (hung a queen-size sheet on the wall) and pinned the pieces where I wanted them.

Oh wow. That makes the quilt even cooler! I couldnt decide which i liked better!

Yesterday was a bonus Bingo prompt day, but I once again forgot. So, here are both prompts.

Yesterday’s prompt: Wear something cozy while you work on your project
Today’s prompt: Create a quilt block

The weather here turned chilly today, just in time for yesterday’s prompt (which is intended to enhance the enjoyment of working on your project).

I forgot, but can we have done the bingo call already and just needed for it to be called or do we have to wait for it to be called to claim the square? I created the October block in October…do I mark it off or wait until I finish the Nov one?

Yes, it is quite chilly here as well…caused the battery in my car to finally die and I have to wear socks…ugh.

Yesterday I took my own advice and bought a pattern, rather than trying to figure it out. It’s super cute

It’s by koipondquilts on Etsy

I’ve been looking for something to put on the back of a denim jacket for me. So I printed out the pattern. 219 sheets of paper :scream:

So long as the bingo call has been completed this quarter, you can use it to fulfill the prompt, regardless of if it was done before or after the prompt was called. So, yes - you’re good to check off the the create a quilt block square.

I can’t believe that is a quilt pattern! WOW! How fun…look at the tiny tail and the noise! I love the tones of fabric that make it look shiny like a balloon!

I think buying this pattern was definitely the way to go. Now instead of figuring it out on your own, you can spend that time working on the pattern! I’m really looking forward to seeing your version!

That is going to be fun! What color baloon puppy are you going to do?

So it turns out I should have read before printing! There were two sizes and templates both with colour and without! I ended up printing everything.

@marionberries I don’t know what colour I’ll use, I thought I would have enough in stash, but I’m not sure now, and it’s going to be fiddly, so I think I’ll splash out and buy new fabric. I won’t need too much. I’m leaning towards the colour depicted. I think it’ll pop best on a denim jacket.

Probably just as well that I’ve made that decision, I sprained a ligament in my thumb and just gluing together the sheets of the pattern was enough to have it complain. So I’m forced to rest it.

That is an incredible pattern. I checked out her other stuff & Game Over blew my mind. I need to make that, it is too cool.

How’s the thumb?
