The golden yellow matches the chamisa, or rabbitbrush, blooming here in the Fall. The flannel plaid fabric I found on eBay. The buttons from Etsy. And the paisley contrast fabric is from a reuseable shopping bag from a shop in Haight Ashbury in San Francisco. I think it might’ve been sari fabric. The pattern is McCall’s M7575 with minor modifications for a better fit.
What a great shirt, no wonder you love it so much!
I really like how you used that contrasting fabric! I’ve been planning on making a flannel shirt for my son and you have opened my eyes to new possibilities!
Thanks! I got the idea from some retro style Western button ups I was admiring. But I went with flannel because it was getting colder and that sounded cozy.
I can totally see that yellow–we have rabbitbrush here! It’s excellent for hiding geocaches under it. There was a year where we had an amazing amount of painted ladies butterflies and they LOVED the rabbitbrush. That was a magical time.
The colorful buttons and contrast fabric really make this unique. Have you had people ask you yet where you got it? Making clothes from patterns is a talent I do not possess, so I am envious. It looks lovely and warm for a chilly day.
No worries about posting past stuff. I didn’t post what I made for Halloween until this spring
Nobody has asked yet where I got it but my social life was pretty quiet through winter. The only people who commented on it had seen my post about it on Instagram already. BUT now that the Taos art scene is waking up from Winter and the bike shop is getting busy, I expect to get more commentary…
Everyone here calls it Chamisa but when I was looking up Chamisa, I found the Rabbitbrush name and thought that was a pretty good name for it too.
I really love flannel shirts. I am so obviously a Gen X grunge kid still. So I have been trying to make some that are a bit more unique, better fitting, and kinda artsy. Some of my friends still tease me about them though.
